F800s

Hi all !

Hello everybody,
This is my first post...
Does anyone know what the service intervals are for these belt driven bikes?
I've got a 1150 Adv which I love but am looking for a good winter bike.
The Lack of lubing a chain certainly appeals to me!

P.s great site.

Welcome Massirati!

I don't know the service intervalls for the F800, but I do know something about the F650CS Scarver! Belts!

BMW do not know how often I have to buy a new belt for my Scarver, but they say I have to see if it is OK every 10 000km. So I see if there is a loose tooth, and if it is as it was last time I looked - that is all!

I hear often the belt are going to snap if I get a small stone in it, but that is not thrue. Perhaps old type belt is like that, but there are metal cords inside the belt - it is not just rubber.
I have seen a stone go through the belt, and it did not snap.
And there is a man in USA, Dailyrider is his username, he rode 90 000 miles with his Scarver before he choosed to change the belt - some teeths was loose.

If you love to ride in snow/ice and in gravel/woods I guess a belted bike is not perfect. But don't be afraid of a few miles on a gravel road - I have ridden on gravel and I did not find a stone in the belt.

I guess stones/ice/twigs gives the pulleys for the belt a hard time, so it needs to be replaced more often then if there are no stone/ice/twig between the belt and pulleys. But I'll be suprised if those things make the belt snap.

The engine F650, Rotax, needs new oil every 10 000km.
The two cylinder engine on F800, with a wet clutch (like F650 Rotax); I guess it's about the same.

Tyre:
I had a Metzler ME Z4 for 15 000 km, rear, on my Scarver, riding alone all the time.
I'll get a new Metzeler Roadtech Z6 on Monday, and the salesman told me that one is as good as the Z4.
Bridgestone Battlax BT014R was worned out after 8320 km, but they told me it is because it is a soft tyre for fast riding - my pants get wet in 60m/h so I don't need that type of tyre, thank you! :)

I mentioned the tyre because I guess a heavy bike ''eat'' more rubber then my little one! And perhaps a chaned bike eat more too, because the belt makes the riding more smooth.

I didn't give you a proper answer, but I wanted to tell you I'm here, one of the few members here with a belted bike.
And I'm a girl, and I live in Norway, but who know if I'm OK after all? ;)

Welcome, have fun!
And if you start a new thread in the ''I'm new here''-section we all get to know you a little better!

:) Liv.

Liv, I too have a CS and love it. I have only heard of a couple of owners with drive belt problems. I met an F800 owner outside a cafe last week on the way to one of my rallies in the Dales, and told him that us CS "Pathfinders" had sorted all the problems out for the likes of him and his F800.
Incidently I saw your bike (which is exactly like mine except for the "Vikings on Tour" sticker) when I popped over to the Hograost on the Saturday but didn't get to meet you because I suspect you were in the bar
I hope to meet you soon on another one of your trips. All the best.

Ridden the F800S and it's fantabidosy :thumb

Cracking engine, instant pick up and goes like a banshee, bike handles too. Much lighter than a 1200, not much heavier, or bulkier, than a 650, with the performance of the 1200... yup, that's about right folks... sorry

I reckon the F800GS will have chain drive, twin side rear suspension. The alloy single sided one is too deep for a chain to clear... the sprockets will be smaller than the belt drive's pulley thingies!

Contrary to popular belief... there's nowt much wrong with chains and sprockets. If the shaft packs in you're in big trouble, but you can see and predict the demise of a chain and sprockets. If we did 19,300 miles, 23 countries, rode across the Gobi desert and home one one set then it's OK for me any time :thumb

I've been promised the first 800GS through Rainbow's doors :D

Thanks Liv,Downfield for the advice.
I will fill in the ''I'm new here'' section when I have a spare moment.
Thanks again. :)

Hi!

You was there all night?
Oh, and we didn't meet.
I found this picture; -is it you?

Knut and I had a B&B down the road, so when you saw my Scarver at Hograost Saturday it was there only for a short time. I went to the B&B for a shower, and went back later. Knut had his black K100 outside the pub that night.
If you saw my bike and not me; it must have been when I was at the toilet.

Well, we can have fun here! We can tell these guys about the belted bikes! They need to be told a couple of things, those shaft people. :P
There is a message for all Scarvers at the F650-site, a thread about ''how many Scarvers''.

A beer for you, my belted friend!
:) Liv.

Yep Liv, that's me..although happily a bit er, thinner and a bit greyer on top :rob
I only stayed at Andover for a couple of hours just to say Hi to a few friends as I was up early next morning for work
Still enough time to buy pannier liners from Les's shop on site though :thumb

Hi Bill!

I have been thinking...

After the Ford Tour I went to the rugby club, I was at the toilet, and then I sat just outside, close to my Scarver, for about one hour.
I remember one man looked at my bike, smiled to us (I was not alone -who was alone&lonely at the Hograost? I was not possible... :thumb ) and did not stop - I believe he went up to the pub.
-Was that you?

If that was you, Bill, let me ask you:
-Why did you not think that was me??? -Did I look like the natives? :eek Is it not visible that I'm a viking? ...I have to start wear a viking helmet - not the sausepan... ;)

:) Liv.
