Anyone had any experience with German tool manufacturer Famex? Their tools have come top in some magazine awards of late.
I've currently compared Halfords Professional, Bahco and Teng. All three appear to have good bits in their socket sets, but it's the ratchets that don't seem to cut the mustard. Halfords only give 3 months warranty on their ratchets, which is crapola IMHO, and i've compared Teng and Bahco side by side, with Bahco coming out on top for a quality 'feel' when using/clicking their ratchet. However, Bahco only offer a 2 year warranty against Famex's 10 year.
I've also looked at Sealey, Britool, Draper etc and can neither warrant or afford the expense of Snap-on and Mac. Any thoughts folks?

i can't see a 3 month warranty being enforceable in the UK :eek

i've never bust a ratchet anyway, even cheap ones.

I have broken plenty of cheap ones, usually smashing knuckles in the process.
Just buy Snap-on! buy once keep for life :rob

i still have my first ratchet, a jap made kamasa. it's had loads of use, not always as a ratchet as the dings in it will testify

still works, must be 40 years old :)

got snap~on as well now though :D

Towards the end of my apprenticeship I was issued with Snap On tools at Rolls Royce for building V12 diesels.

One day I noticed a tiny piece of chrome peeling back on my 1/2" ratchet so went to the foreman to ask for a replacement in case any chrome should fall into parts of the engine.

Gwilym Roberts a tight arse, looked at it and said there's nothing wrong with that boyo as he started to scratch the edge of the chrome with his finger nail.

A piece of chrome plating shot straight under his nail and he screamed with pain, dropping the ratchet as I tried to stay straight faced.

Happy days:D

Slightly off topic but what were the V12's going into? Had my fair share of Rolls experience but mainly in the truck world. Pretty good engines but would never set the world on fire for performance.

CV12s were a multi fuel/diesel 24litre, 1200bhp twin turbo engine matched with a special DB gearbox for tanks.

The whole project was backed by the Shah of Iran in the late 70's. Of course he was deposed so the engines were used in British Chieftan tanks if I remember.

Great job at first whilst in the R&D stages where one man would build from scratch which initially took 3 months per unit:thumb

Britool, lifetime warranty and I had my ten yo ratchet exchanged no quibble by my local tool shop. Maybe not as swanky as snap on but lifetime guarantee works for me.
