I've had a couple of Harleys, between my GSs and the love affair has always been a short-term thing.

My Night Rod Special was stunning, but pretty uncomfortable any decent length of time in the saddle.

My Fatbob was also lovely but, whilst the was great, you really felt every slight bump on the road.

So whilst pondering what to buy after my GS, and also wondering how i was going to tell my wife that I really can't give up bikes after all, I heard that Chester Harley Davidson had a Fatboy demo available to try out.

Now I love the looks of the Fatboy, apart from the acres of chrome and associated hours of cleaning, but I felt that I really had to try one and so, whilst determined to hate the ride etc, the weather was fair and I decided to scive for an hour and go and try it. I mean, if i didn't like it, then I wouldn't need to sell the idea to the wife!

So, I picked her up from near to Cheshire Oaks and off I sailed for a mix of A & B roads and a touch of motorway.

Okay, she isn't as nippy or nimble as the GS and in no way is she as practical, but I really enjoyed the ride and am now really torn about whether to go back to my silly car habit like a TVR etc, or to go down the Fatboy route.

They seem bloody dear at near to £16k but the new model has ABS, a gear indicator, a rev counter etc on the digital display built in to the speedo.

I just seem to sense a third Harley coming on.

Has anyone here got / had one at all?

If , and a realise that this is a really really big IF in your case, you keep it for long enough the damn thing will be worth more than it cost you ;)

For god's sake man, do the sensible thing and go and test ride a Road King classic :blast

You can then have all the bling and pose you need, and then you can ride it as well

Road King Classisc is what i'm going for next, i think.

seems to have all the right bits - and a bit of road presence.

For what its worth, my son and I bought 2 new Street Bobs, these are the entry level big twins and we love them. Mine is less than 3 months old now and I've nearly done 4k already. I've done 2 trips one to France and Germany and the other to the Highlands both with my GS mates. I have been surprised how well they go and handle. On the up side two can be bought for the same price as the retail price of the ones above (if you take advantage of the deals available).

For touring all I added was a small rear rack and may add a detachable screen for future use.

Cheers Andy
