Guys, I`ve just purchased a bottle of liquid diamond (FD oil) from my local dealer (or it seemed like liquid diamond when I saw the price ).

I am gonna change the FD oil on my 2006 GS and my beloved (but sadly blown over in Wales last week - £394 worth of damage ) 2010 GSA.

I know that on the 06 it hasn`t got a drain plug but I read somewhere on the forum that its an easy job to do with a length of thin tube and a syringe so hopefully no probs there.

I also know that on my 2010 GSA they have a drain plug (woohoo). So, guys, any advice for someone who hasn`t done this before? I am sure it`s fairly easy but you never know and I`d rather ask for good experienced advice?

So, pointers on technique and capacities would be appreciated :thumb2

Best regards to all,

Mark

Easy job

Remove rear wheel.

Remove filler plug on back plate.

Remove drain plug (turn the rear hub to get the dregs out)

Refit drain plug.

Inject 180cc of oil then refit filler plug.

Refit rear wheel and ride away..

15 mins tops.

Note that I say remove filler before the drain. Always do this even for gearbox and engine oil. If you've drained out and can't refill you're stiffed unless you fancy flipping the bike over.

You can guess why I now do it this way :blast

Roger.

I changed the fd oil on my 06 gsa mark a few times and as you said pretty straight foward , wheel off , paralever bolt out and caliper off to drop the fd down , abs sensor out , and then fd drain bolt out the end , turn the fd drive slowly to get all the old oil out , reassemble with grease on the driveshaft splines . Then fill up [180mm] with a seringe or a piece of airline pipe and a funnel on the end , check everything , wheel back on , i'll probably get shot down in flames now , but thats how ive always done it :thumb

Mark Hooton.....Sorry for going off topic mate, but are you serious when you say that your GSA 1200 blew over in the wind?.....:eek

Guys thank you all

One of the reasons why I think this is the best forum ever is the way in which we all pull together and help each other with good advice - within just a short time I have all the answers I need - thanks guys - if there is anything I can ever do with my modest abilities just call!

And the other reason is the great weekends..................

And yes, Johnny Comet - last Monday saw the tail end of the hurricane hit our shores. I was scuttling around Snowdonia on my fully laden GSA, stopped to take aphoto with the bike on its sidestand and one gust simply took the bike over into a large fence post :blast.

The weather was the worst in all the 35 years I have been riding.

I was gutted.

One mirror, a screen, the little piddly brackets for the screen and the screen upper crossbar £394

And get this...... it gets worse...........with a huge sense of humility I was moving the GSA around in the garage yesterday and slipped - my beloved GSA fell into my beloved GS and broke the RH indicator paddle.

I haven`t looked at it yet but does anyone know anything about RH instrument repairs?

I need a bloody restraining order on my bike :( I`m not fit to be near it!

regards and thanks again for all the kind advice
