Trip

I might be interested Tony.

How many days?

Which ferry route and cost?

What type of accommodation are you considering?

Any camping?

Time to stop for pictures or is it a high speed trip?

uk-morrocco

ian was planning on a ferry from portsmouth to bilbao then a liesurely straight run thu spain down to algesiras and over on the ferry to morocco.
after that a sightseeing trip down to the atlas mountains for some of the best roads i have ridden with amazing scenery
then on to erfoud to the edge of the sahara for a quick camel ride then skirt along the atlas back and on toward home.
did it in may but had bad weather so gonna do it again but at my own pace and staying in hotels as they are so cheap esp in morrocco (about £7 a night)
should take 10-14 days dep on stop offs and i expect to do it for 600 ish plus fuel

I remember the Portsmouth/Bilbao ferry took something like 36hrs, you get on at 4pm and are stuck on the ferry all the next day and then get off the day after that at around 8am. Comes back overnight tho I believe.

If you go Plymouth - Santander, it goes around 4pm over night and arrives noon the next day I think.

You save a day, AND being trapped on the ferry spending money at their prices.............

Also, the Portsmouth ferry had the bikes tied down along the sides, squeezed in by the cars, the Plymouth one had sections set aside at each end of the ferry, especially for all the bikes. Much nicer.

No sure of any cost difference, but if I went again, I'd go the Plymouth route...........

Top Tip
If you don't know. When you buy the Algeciras/Ceuta ferry tickets, ask them if they have a any forms for the Moroccan border. You can then fill them out at leisure, not with some scroat trying to hassle you or force a form on you :D

I'd certainly be seriously interested, especially if as suggested the Plymouth/Santander option was used.

Either that or I'll meet up in Spain.

great mate the more the better as it will be more fun and cheaper!
will definately be going either plymouth or portsmouth whatever suits the majority, or people can meet the other side and group up there.
it really is a great ride the atlas mountains are beautiful and the roads are superb so anyone interested can give me a ring on 07719 594334 or email me on tonytheron*at*hotmail.com
come on dont be shy you know you wanna!
ps bm`s and gs`s in particular are great for riding this route so if you fancy giving yours a blast the come along

Tony...I've taken the liberty of editing your email addy.........Don't know how much you post on forums but putting your proper one up is sadly an invitation to get all sorts of spam after your address is lifted by bots. (automated applets that just search for any viable email adresses from any popular site or forum)

Yes I am definately interested in this trip. As discussed on the phone, I shall contact you again in a few days to go over your plans.

As some others replying to this thread, I am not too keen on spending 3 days on the ferry so maybe I could join up with others on the Plymouth crossing if the timetables enable us all to meet up on the other side. I shall look into that possibility and post the details

Anyone planning to go next year? Can't manage this year but desperately want to get away to Morocco around next October...

Ferry

Definitely recommend the Plymouth -> Santander route which is around 25 hours if I remember correctly and all onboard a snazzy new ferry. If that is not all the road leaving santander south is a fantastic winder taking you through some great scenery and is a great welcome to Espana.

Yes, If it's not too late, I am definitely interested in joining you on a GS journey to Morocco!!! The timing couldn't be better for me!

I'm also a big surfing enthusiast, and I hear Morocco has some thumping good possiblilities. Will we have time to stop for a day here or there if the surf is up while we are there? And will this be a balls to the wall blur of speed tour, or will it be at a leisurely pace? Please let me know ASAP!
