Was bound to happen really; P&O were so expensive for so long that Brittany had the ideal opportunity to undercut. I wonder how long before Brittany becomes as expensive as P&O used to be?
Mup.
I agree, although I dont think its just how expensive they are. P&O are so shoddy with their service and the quality of the food and experience itself. Some may disagree but to my mind P&O deserve it. I travel extensively with the ferries and Brittany are generally pretty good although pricey, and I have also used LD lines which have been amazing as they are reasonably priced and IF you get the Portuguese crew you will be in luck as they keep the ship spotlessly clean and work wonders with the food they are provided with. One exception was on my last trip with LD lines unfortunately we didnt get the regular boat or crew. They were French instead of Portuguese and the service and food was shite to say the least (I am not implying it was BECAUSE they were French by the way!).
I am so hacked off at the crap service so many of these companies give just because they have a captive audience just like the train companies, airports, airlines, motorway service stations, etc. Am not saying they are all the same, but there is this mentality that if people cannot go elsewhere you inflate prices AND provide crap.
P&O would make more money by polishing their act up a little. Its simple:
1) Provide reasonably priced fresh food rather than low end catering food sat on hot plates.
2) Cheer the staff up and ensure they give great customer service
3) Make sure cleanliness is top of the list
4) Tweak the decor by replacing worn out fixtures without rekitting the entire ship
5) Advertise that they have have refreshed their brand and on board experience
6) Make money
The reality is that it wont happent though! Thats me done with my soap box!
