Final drive failure statistics

Out of curiosity, how many chain-driven bikes, 750cc plus, have chain failure?. Generally, when a chain goes, it goes! . I suppose at least you can usually get home with a duff shaft drive or at least get some warning.

What's the sign?
My 12GS feels like the brakes are binding, but when I check them they seem okay. Could this be the signal to change the final drive/shaft drive????
