A few days away in Wales. Found some offroad around the Brecon Beacons. Did little bits of the Strata Florida, but most of it is too challenging for my experience on a big bike!

What a machine though. Cruise from London to Wales on the motorway in comfort, then ride around some off road trails, then home. Loving the GS even more now.

Those knobblies do look good peppered in dust 👍

Can I suggest you try the BMW off road course in Wales - these big bikes are so competent going places that I would struggle walking up!

Its expensive but I promise you will learn a lot have a new found respect for these machines.

I think part of the expense is down to the repair bills. They may be capable for a big beast but there are better bikes to drop regularly
Are you thinking about the one I had earlier this year :-)
I certainly droped it quite a few times - only benefit is with the cylinders sticking out they dont fall far :-)

TBH very little damage to the actual bike but lots of paintwork scuffs and scratches

Yes, thats on the list. Would love to do it. We rode some pretty technical stuff, and I got away with it this time. But I would to do more of it.

Good to see another Lc Rallye off road. I have the same bike, and also ride it off road. I split my time between South Devon anmd South Wales but haven’t been off road up in Wales on my Rallye yet, just down here in Devon. Also, I can highly recommend the BMW Off Road Skills courses.

For anyone reading this and thinking about buying the Lc Rallye, it’s a fantastic bike. If I remember rightly, BMW said it was their best GS at the launch.

I think we need a Show Us Your Rallye thread… 👍

Looks a great ride / trip, but I bet that took at least two buckets to clean it up afterwards....

Thanks @Devon Rallye. The BMW Off Road Skills course is on the list. Just need to find the time/money. I love my Rallye. Such a great bike. Looks just right too. I would love to see more peoples bikes for sure!

Yes it did! The bike was immaculate before that trip. Previous owner kept it mint. Its clean now, but there is Welsh dirt now in places I will never reach, so its been christened!

How do you find them on the road in wet conditions?
Cheers!
Not great on a wet road, but I don't really ride in the wet if I can avoid it. I was under the impression that as soon as you have any off road tread, your sacrifice wet road grip. I was happy to take that compromise. In the dry on road, they are really good, and thats most of my riding. When its times to change them I will probably give another tyre a go if the reviews are good enough.

Offroad, with my limited experience, they are fine. Slippery rock, gravel roads. Wet mud, they struggled but is there a tyre thats good on the road that can deal with wet mud well? @PitaNaanRoti I will have a read about the 2 you suggest.

This is true. I dropped a school bike at ORS onto the only pointy rock in the Walter’s Arena. Punched a 50p size hole straight through the cylinder head cover :D

Agreed, I would certainly rather pick up my old DR 650 than my newish R1250 GSA. I know which would be lightest and cheapest to fix.
