I am looking at renting a campervan in June for a week, to accommodate two adults and two children.

Memsahib insists it has a shower and a bog, and as I will be the only one driving it, I only have a licence for a car, I forget which code that is.

I know some people on here own their own, so I am looking for advice on who to rent from, where you can park up and so on.

Yes I have a full car licence.

Mark thanks for the info, I had seen some of them while searching.

I will probably go over to Motorhomes.ie at the airport and have a look during the week.

To drive anything bigger than 3.5 ton you will need at least a C1 licence. I assume you have a full car licence?

Possibly wrong. If the licence holder passed the car test before Jan 97 they can drive up to a 7.5 ton vehicle.

Not quite that far back. I had a C1 endorsement, as I did my test pre 97. However you need a medical to keep it valid, so I didn't bother doing it.

Most of the camper vans can be driven on a class B, I.e. A car licence as they are under 3,500 Kgs.

I am looking at booking with Motorhome.ie, nice looking vans and they are good value.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I see that you are in Dublin....In my experience a normal car licence will see you OK to drive everything up to 44 tons:thumb:D

:thumb2 same in Uk ..... unless you are carrying goods for sale of course

Out of interest, why? :nenau
Have you ever stayed in a caravan where someone has made full use of the bathroom - not nice in close quarters :barf
If you're not wild camping but staying on camping sites, they will all have toilets and a shower.
You could take a portable toilet for those "must go" moments at 3am rather than spend €€€ on a big campervan. I've heard a bucket and cat litter work just as well too :)

My wife's idea of camping is a four poster bed in a five star hotel.
