Happened across a potentially nasty road accident in Ebbw Vale today, probably only a minute after the incident. I'm a first responder for the Welsh Ambulance and the training gives me a degree of confidence in certain circumstances but the conditions here were different, when you come across people trapped upside down in a car it's not quite the same as "chest pains" 30/2, O2 and a defib.

If anyone out there gets the chance to do a course (and repeat it), do it. It's amazing how it all fits into place when you need it.

Scene management and casualty reassurance is so important, never feel that a lack of professional qualification should hold you back. The amount of cars driving around the obstacle and not getting involved...people feeling they can't help?

I could tell you the response times for the EMS depts, but I'm sure you'll know who was last, there are enough programmes about it.

I went down to the local St Johns Ambulance on Thursday - good bunch of people with alot of experience.
Seems like a good thing to join:thumb

Been trying to get people to look at the FBoS courses.. if your in north wales it might even be free..
Details in the Training area of this forum..

I was in a similar situation last year.

1st response trained , not the full 5 days.

this was paid for by my works , i went to the minors rescue centre , this was required in my job to back up the onsite fully trained 1st aider.
i think all employers should have at least an amount of 1st aid trained personell to the amount of workers in the workplace.

so at all times there is a 1st aider at hand.
incase the other is away !

we did MIRA and First Responder with work:thumb2 bloody good training... thank heavens we've only had to use it 3 times in 10 years:thumb2

Warning - keep away from me!

2nd tipped over car today! Just happened as walking across from City Hall to Museum in Cardiff. "Poor" woman clipped the small (but high kerb) traffic island and rolled her Zafira in front of me and my 6yr old. Amazingly as everyone rushed for their mobiles an old guy in front of me (who was with his wife and grand daughters) went straight for the back door and got in. I told the driver to remain calm and not to unbuckle her seat belt (ie. don't fall and hurt yourself as it was on it's left side) then helped get the kids out and looked after. Eventually managed to get woman out before the EMS turned up (nothing wrong with her apart from proper shock). Got loads of thanks but now thinking things like, what if she hadn't seen a bike or kid crossing a road etc. She blamed bright sunlight!
Turned out the bloke in front of me who got straight in was from Ebbw Vale like myself! and he was taking his grand kids to museum, came down on the 0940 train...all like myself!!!

So two cars in a few months....as I said...keep away from me!!!
