First Trip Away - Scotland to Spain HELP!

Got my trip booked and sort-of planned. Me and a mate are going Inverness to Newcastle, for a ferry to Amsterdam. From there we're gonna go through Netherlands, Belgium France Germany, Poss Luxembourg Down to Chamonix. Then Back again. We have a rough route, No GPS and We'll take it as it comes. Planning on finding places along the way to stop overnight, or just camp wherever. Are there any laws on where you can camp?
Leave Monday and come back the following Monday. Cant wait. Any help / tips much appreciated, however noddy.

When you get sorted on the ferry - get a table booked for the "round the world buffet" - it's a cracking meal.

Don't miss the "cabaret" - it can be found in most of the bars onboard the ship
