I've just done a complete service on my R1100GS so thought I'd give it a treat.

The Wilbers was a very nearly new one off here with an extra 1cm body.

It was set for 15st so given the extra height and me being nearer 14st I took a couple of pre-load turns off before mounting.

It has the remote pre-load adjuster, had a quick go at setting the sag. The front which I have never checked is at around 40-50mm. The rear wasn't as firm as I expected so stiffened it with the adjuster to about 35mm. These figures are softer than the 30/15mm recommended on a normal bike.

Too early to say if it needs firming. At around 6ft I can get toes down only but I'm fine with that. I like being high up. Still have TKC's on but went around a round a bout on the edge of the rubber and still had plenty of ground clearance. Had to do it several times on each one I could find of course:D

Next time out I will throw it around a bit more.

The Remus Titanium front+back pipe first off looks much sleeker. At tick over it is a bit deeper but nothing to attract bad press. With ear plugs in didn't notice much change on the move. Ear plugs out I could hear it was agressive sounding when gassed.

I was concerned about how it would run. Pulls very well from 1500rpm in 4th and 5th. Not sure what it has done to power but it deffinately races up the tacko faster. I kept thinking I was one gear lower than I was.

Don't know what its done to the MPG yet

I could do with some after market shocks for mine. The Remus I fitted improved the fuel economy or at least it didnt drop :thumb2

Nice looking bike squid. Got Hyperpro shocks on mine and it`s a great improvement.

Matter of interest, what mpg are you getting?

I don't really keep a count other than to expect around 200 Miles to the light coming on. Despite having 5 gears I've noticed it seems to do better than 1150's:confused:

I have the holes drilled so get the extra Litre or so in. In Spain on the mountain roads I was getting 260 to a tank but thats because there was no traffic and on TKC's and hairpins it was gentle throttle time. Thats still making swift progress though.

It soon drops when back here on the motorways etc.

So I'd say about 40 at worst and 60 at best.

still running oe units on me 11g.s.whats the big deal with this wilbers kit then

My front is still a Showa. I changed the rear to a Wilbers simply because one came up and the existing shock had done near to 30k. It still felt ok though.

I'll know better after a good days ride but the word is they make a big difference, especially if the standard one is past it. I'm sure I've seen it said a standard one is almost as much from BM as a made to measure Wilbers

That looks very nice and I not usually a big fan of the red uns.

How comfy is the seat. I need a replacement and I think the single Touratech is better priced the the Corbin and sargent options.

Do you find the tool rack cover is secure without the pillion seat?

I was also interested in that Wilbers. It wasn't the cost but the 2 stone I'd had to lose to fit its range:eek:

The seat is a stack better than the original although not sure if it is as good as a corbin etc. Never tried one. Not had an issue with the tool cover although I often have a small bag on there.

As for the shock, I'm not sure how many different spring rates they use but there is loads of pre-load adjustment to add or take on top of that which can be done on the remote.

PS, the bike usually has a black tank cover so not always so red

The dual sport Touratech isn't bad either... particularly when the original buyer had the great good sense to have it quickly recovered to get rid of the faux suede material and godawful Logo on the side. A layer of memory foam made it perfect. This was the XXH version. adds just under 4" to the seat height.

those cute little side panels are from touratech too. (fortunately they dont have the logo either)
