Round 'n' round in circles.........
At long last after a four week wait it has finally arrived my Ti Remus to go with the y-piece.

Remus now go to great lengths to point out a couple of things, typed as it is written on the box:-

ACHTUNG! WARNING!
When silencers without the sound tube are fitted or when travel cases are used is this end pipe extension part Nr 087799 required to protect the indicators and the travel case. When using the travel cases the inner travel case should be protected with a heat resistant material BMW part Nr 46 54 2 316 611.

The first job was to remove the sound tube, how easy could it be? drill the one rivet out and remove the tube!

Started the bike up............:yikes feck, thats loud!
Refitted sound tube and started it up again, arrrr....thats a bit better.
Just need to road test it tomorrow after the sealant has cured around the joints to see how it performs.

That said the noise check was not really a true test coz it was done inside the garage so it echoed around the walls and made it sound louded that it was.

I would hope after shelling out so much dosh I will run it without the baffle. Out of interest how do people run theirs, in or out?

Plus reading the warning note on the box, it would seem that if you have the sound tube out and ride it without the end pipe extension fitted you could melt the indicator?

Lastly, remaining inside the box were two M8 x 20 s/s nuts, bolts & spring washers, plus one M8 x 20 s/s bolt, these are over and above the two bolts that secure the mounting bracket to the can.
WTF are they supposed to be for then??

what did you use as the sealant?

Wurth Silicone RTV sealant, withstands temperatures up to +280 degree C

Part No 1890 322, most workshops use it for a whole host of sealing applications as it it resistant to transmission fluids, anti freeze, diesel fuel, water, steam and most lubricants.

Jon,

Get yerself down to "Halfords" and buy a small tube of :-

Holts Firegum - eases exhaust assembly and seals all joints. Resists vibration and is heat setting.

Fitted my Remus Ti a few days ago, and i'm running it without the baffle.

I dont think its at all load - it just sounds a bit throatier, with a nice deep tone.

Mind you, I don’t have my ‘Y’ peace fitted yet, so I spose the cat reduces the noise somewhat.

Fit the y-piece and then come back and see if you say the same thing!

Its the y-piece is the restriction not the can.

Mine usually runs without the baffle and I swear that it is less offensive like this. With the baffle in place, it produces a 'rasp' with lots of high-frequency noise which I find irritating. Without the baffle, it is slightly louder but the noise is much deeper / more mellow. Around town at 2500-3000 revs it just burbles quietly.

Haven't had any trouble with indicator melting, or pannier probs, either.

it's currently got that special setup. You know, the one where it does an impression of the USS Arizona firing a broadside, whenever I go thru a quiet village, or past a Policeman  you know, just when you don't want to draw attention to yourself :D

I ride mine with it in, I do have the bm pannier heatshield thingy, but don't have the extension part and have done loads of miles with no probs

I ride with the baffle in, as i find that the bike seems to have a bit more torque with it in, Might be something to do with retaining a bit more back pressure but then again i might be talking bollox again... (wont be the first or last time...)
The Clown :0)

Did around a 100 miles on the bike today...baffle in, baffle out, baffle in, baffle out.

Conclusion

Well I think that I prefer it with it in to be honest but like LRR has already said it does produce a much higher pitched rasp.

My real concern is the gap between the can and the pannier, at most the gap is only around 30mm:(

I have taken it all apart again tonite and refitted, this time applying a little inward pressure to see if it will let the can rotate further while I tighten all the clamp and mounting bolts up..

I did try fitting a 5mm spacer in between the mounting bracket and the frame but all this did was force the top of the silencer out further and the bottom closer to the pannier?

Having reassembled again I have managed to gain another 5mm, so we are up to around 30mm gap, but still not happy though?
I will fit another heat shield I think just to be on the safe side.

Lesson number one if you are to quote figures never guess them, measure them!!

Just refitted the B*W pannier and the gap is now exactly 24mm between the Remus can and the side of the case, and thats after I have adjusted it out further!

Could someone who has the same setup measure thier gap and tell me if its the same please?

Thanks

mine is approx 20mm ( not including the heatsheild) at its narrowist point, which is at the back
