Fitting an on board computer

Hi,

Is it possible to fit the on board computer yourself or is it a dealer upgrade..

Actually, is it possible to do at all.?

I've got an '06 GS and quite fancy having the OBC.

I asked when I bought my 06 GSA (feb this year) and the dealer said no, but I got the impression that they were just trying to sell me a more expensive model.

I find it particularly odd that the bike can tell you how many miles you have left for the last 4 litres (or so), but not before that. I guess you'd need to fit a temp sensor somewhere to get the full computer trickery, but I'd like to think that the upgrade would be possible.

Technically you could probably gut a write off bike with on board comp, but how much of the electrics would need changing over?

Theoretically it would be possible, assuming your friendly dealer co-operates.

You would need:
- a new main cable harness
- a new ZFE
- possibly a new left side combi switch (depends on what you already have)
- an additional temperature sensor
- an oil level sensor
- a fuel sensor strip
- a different fuel pump assembly
- a compatible fuel tank
- a co-operative dealer to configure the electronics so it does work as planned

Maybe I forgot one or two things, this is just from filing through the parts fiche.

In case you get all the required parts through your dealer (around 3000£ new) the latter might be included. Note that this is just the raw material cost. Labour might be easily more than that.

Now you decide if it's worth it ...:augie

I think the computer was a £150 option when I bought my 1200. Looks good value given the shopping list from Looney.
