Fitting Autocom Active 7

Hi all, just bought an Autocom active 7 to replace the old Eurocom I used to have. Just looking for advice on where to mount it on the bike. There is the obvious place under the rear of the tank, but I'd prefer something a bit tidier. I think i read that someone had fitted it in the fuse box area, which I tried & it will fit, but is there any interference from the relays etc mounted in there. Also where is the best place to get a feed from, I was thinking of cutting into the rear lights circuit unless anyone has a better suggestion. Would take a feed from the fuse box but dont have a wiring diagram to tell me which feed does what.

I fitted mine today to my non ABS 1150, following this advice from Autocom themselves:

"We fit the main units by the battery just underneath the petrol tank and
wire the earth directly to the battery and live to the brake light switch
onto the wire which is green with a black trace, this is the cleanest
possible power source. "

I understand if you have ABS you cannot use this + connection. I experimented with the fuse box but decided against it as it meant cutting holes in the box. The Active 7 is a nice push fit for one slot in the tool tray, but again you have to ditch the tools and cut multiple holes in the tray.

My only reservation about the space beind the tank is that I have seen water puddle up there on top of the filter box after a heavy downpour or washing session.

I tried fitting mine just behind the fuse box above the mudguard and wrapped it in bubblewrap. I decided that it was a tight fit with the seat fitted so I`ve gone with the rear of the tank site.
I`ve wound a few turns of bubblewrap round it so it does`nt move around and I dont think water will get to the unit.

I powered if from the same wire in the fuse box I used for Rob Farmers Autoswitch. I`d holed the fuse box anyway so that was`nt a problem.

I`ve noticed that when I connect the GPS into the music socket that I can hear a low level ignition click which is annoying.

I decided to modify my tank bag rather than leave it on the bike.......the power lead/PTT are on the bars....the Autocom and the Kenwood are in a netted off section in the top of the bag, with the leads for the power connection, the two helmet sets and the GPS lead coming out of a whole I melted into the front end of the bag with my trusty little gas soldering iron.....the Minidisc is in the map pocket on top of the bag so it's protected yet visible, with its lead going through another small hole into the top of the bag.

Seems to work well and leaves everything accessable for tweaking channels etc.

I used the rear light supply for mine..

Yep I get that too and that's with using the correct Autocom lead

I understand if you have ABS you cannot use this + connection.

I have ABS and did use it and the ABS went into a tizz and had to be reset, others have done it and no probs at all.

When the ABS was checked by BM* it gave several spurious error messages but reset first time without problems and never repeated

Wired it in today. Slotted it into fuse box, took feed from tail light. Not tested yet, but hopefully should be OK.

what method did you use to `connect ` to the power wire? Scotchlock?

I have mine to fit this weekend and this has me scratching my head at the moment

(or seal the bastards with silicone..they're crap and have a tendency to fail after a season or two.....solder or decent crimp terminals are my prefferred choice.)

Autocom strongly suggest soldering as they dont rate crimp or scochlock

I used a crimp fitting. Used one on the VFR for 4 years never had a problem.
