And when I took the L side small plastic cover off i found the details of tyre pressures printed underneath.

Useful if you are at the pump without your manual.

I also discovered that my bike has not got a manual holder above the battery.

As most peeps seem to have fitted their Autocom to this with rubber bands I was wondering if anyone else had fitted one with no manual holder.

To what did you secure it ?

Interesting

I wonder of this is another part of BWM's cost cutting exercise.

So that would be toolkit, exhaust bypass valve, extra key and now manual holder!

What else went I wonder.

I'm pretty sure that my tyre pressures aren't under that panel though.

The Starcom power connector prevented me mounting it in the manual holder. It stuck out so far that the seat wouldn't fit.

I couldn't be bothered to source and fit a right angles connector.

Thanks ;)

Makes life much easier returning home with a clean bike after off roading. i may need Verns panniers to carry all the water and a 12v pressure washer. :D

I passed my Autcom cabling to Cannon in Chelmsford to be fitted PDI. Despite providing written instruction with pictures of an instalation such as the one you are working toward, they still delivered the bike without the manual bracket! By way of an excuse for it's absence they said that they provided the manual in a folder and so did not install the bracket!

When I quoted this to BMW UK in a letter of complaint (about far more serious issues than the bracket, but just to give a general picture of my disatisfaction) Cannon suggested I must have misunderstood. I may well have, our disagreement goes on!

Suffice to say they handed one over when I demanded it at delivery, but I had to fix it myself!!!

Go ask for yours....?

PS. I found the red/black GPS/Phone splitter fits nicely under the tanks side panel.

I'm about to fit an Autocom (I've had it ages but not got round to it). I thought it might get very wet in the manual holder and asked the dealer where they put them. They said they put them on top of the battery so I might try that, alternatively ditch the puncture repair kit and put it in the tool tray, or even in the little box under the tool tray.

Get a manual holder from your dealer. Mine has been there for over a year now and never really gets wet. Any water running down the tank goes behind the holder. Whereas the area around the battery is often covered in gunge after wet weather.

The elastic band thingy that is fixed to the manual holder which keeps my Autocom in place snapped the other day. As a result, there was a very strange sensation of engine noise being picked up by the Autocom unit and transmitted straight into my earphone - very bizarre. This was caused by the unit vibrating on the seat fixing bar thingy and the manual holder itself.

So, I have put some foam backing on the Autocom where it fits into the manual holder, and fixed it all with cable ties.

Not probably going to be much help for you as I see you have the Pro model which is probably to big, but maybe of use for others ...

... but the Autocom Active 7 fits perfectly under the aluminium tank panel :) Fitted mine with the velcro in such a way that the knobs for vol/VOX are also accessible without having to take off the seat etc. Is powered by taking a feed fom the back of the external power socket.

re Amptill

Sounds great! any chance of a photo/more info, eg which side etc? Gonna fit mine at the weekend it sounds great to have access to controls without removing seat!!

Called Vines today and they told me the technicians probably bin the manual holder as no one keeps the manual there.

They will keep one for me to collect later.

Not (yet) a sponsor so don't seem to be allowed to post picts. However think I can explain the process.

Take off left aluminium tank panel - fit 1 piece of velcro to autocom unit - fit other piece to inside of panel in the best position for you. With a bit of messing about you will find that you can site the unit so that the 2 knobs on the unit stick out from the bottom of the panel with about quarter of an inch to play with... please , gentlemen, please, you know what I mean... You can also then put the leads that come out from the autocom unit just above the black plastic mini-panel for easy access if you want to.
To be honest though once you have got the intercom set up as you want it you'll probably find that you dont need access to these controls on a regular basis.
By the way the autocom is an impressive bit of kit - only downside is connecting yourself up each time you want to use it and all the extra gubbins in the helmet.

Dahoum,

"Called Vines today and they told me the technicians probably bin the manual holder as no one keeps the manual there."

This is typical of the mind set that I came accross with Cannon, and it gets right under my skin!

It makes me wonder what other bits of teh bike they may keep as "no one uses it"!

Surely the option to put the manual there is MINE!!??

Sorry.... I feel better for that :P

Couldn't agree more.

Apart from anything else, having paid for ALL the bike, it is theft.

How'd they like it if their next car came without a spare wheel because 'everyone calls the AA'

If the bike comes fitted with the manual holder I can't see the Techies taking time and effort to remove it.

Conversely, if it's in a bag of bits in the crate for them to fit at PDI, and their management say don't bother....
