Fitting bagste r tank cover tor1150 gs

I picked up an 1150 on Saturday with stank bag and cover included in the sale it not fitted.

I had one for an 1150 gas at one point in the past but this bag for the 1150 gs is totally different.

How do I install it? I've tried a few ways and none seem correct! I'm starting to wonder if it's a cover for an1150 at all?!

Tips welcome! Photo to follow...

Looks the right cover to me as it has the windows in it for the BMW logo. If it seems a bit small use a fan heater to soften it up a bit so it molds to the tank better. I don't remember having any problems fitting mine.

I must be a bit thick Mike.

I can figure out some of the straps but I can't figure out the rest. I've fitted one to a GSA before but this makes no sense! Does it look like yours in terms of the strap configuration?

Hang on I might have got it. The two long ones on the sides of the cover go under / through the engine... I'll try again.

Edit- that didn't work.

Do the two straps at the side go under the tank and over the battery?

Also, the two long ones up front, do they attach to the other side or will I attach them to the beak frame?

This is like the krypton factor!!!!

The ones on the side have a plastic clip which fits on the edge of the tank.

At the front they attach to the beak frame and one under the headstock and back to the other side.

I have the ones rarest he seat. The front ones I've got too.

The two big long ones on the sides though. I can't decide where to route them. The previous owner says they went under the tank but above the battery. Does this sound right?

The cover on my GSA just fitted. This one! Not so obvious!

I'll try harder!

Looking again and your's appears different to any I've had and I bought my first in 2000 before I even seen a GS with one fitted and had several since.

So yes, it does appear your's need to thread through somewhere as you have buckles on the rh side, there is a gap to poke it through over the crankcase but can't see them going over the battery.

I've got the same as yours.
The 2 straps at the lower front go in front of the timing cover, 1 each side of the shock.
The front uppers I take under the side of the beak, and around the metal frame supporting the beak/clocks if that makes sense.

I can take a couple of pic's in the morning if that would help?

Hi lads, I've secured it and it seems ok. Not happy with the front cables but I'll post a few photos later but I need to transfer the photos from the camera to the iPad to the net... Plus I'm in the middle of cleaning it with autoglum back to black

Im sure there used to be a set of instructions in the UKGSer wisdom section under quick links, but it doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have informed the his chiefness

If you can hang on 'til Friday, I've got a copy at home somewhere.

I do remember one of the top tips was stick it in your airing cupboard for a day or so, to get the leather all supple and bendy (or stick it in a conservatory or anywhere it'll get nice and warm) and that you'll need to adjust it a couple of times every day or so initially to get it to mould to the bike nicely.

This is what I ended up with at the back.

The front, I've run a fastening cord front and back of the shock. Not sure i like that. The adventure setup was more elegant but just as flawed in its own way.

It's on now anyway.

That looks about right. When I had my 1150 I threaded the strap behind the air in take. It was a right pain to do but looked neater

Yeah that's right. I had the same problem when I fitted a tank cover earlier this year - it's not obvious the first time you do it but it soon becomes 2nd nature, especially if you take the tank off a lot I also wasn't impressed with the two straps that pass the front shock, doesn't seem a great location IMO - I found that one of the tensioning buckles was fitted the wrong way round and consequently had to put a twist in the strap to make it work properly.

Looks like you're sorted though - good bit of kit and great with the map case

It really is an awful setup at the front but I can't see it when I'm in the saddle and if it works I'm happy enough.
