fitting chargers in the panniers

i saw a walkthrough with pics for fitting electrics to the panniers i.e. dual carcharger, but now cant find the sodding thing :blast

anyone know where i can find it or have a link to a good one?

You have the power socket already, I suppose?

If so, good. If not, Powerlet are good.

Attach power socket to pannier or bag, using instructions provided with it. If there are no instructions, use imagination.... You will probably need to cut a hole, requiring a suitable drill and bit.

Run suitably fused lead to power socket on pannier. Where to run lead? Anywhere that is aesthetically pleasing and will not foul the bike's controls.

Job done. No walk-thro' pictures necessary.

How to get switched power? See sticky, 'Switched power the easy way' or be lazy and whack it straight to the battery via a suitably fused lead. 3 or 5 amps will be more than adequate.

I have been thinking about adding power to my GSA panniers so I can charge whilst on the move or parked up. Didn't know these made by Popeye were available and look a neat solution.

Before I go drilling holes in aluminiuim panniers, has anyone done this already for the 1200GSA panniers and are there any pitfalls to watch out for? I'm thinking of fitting it to the inside upper section of the pannier with the exhaust cutout.

Inside of my 1150 exhaust side,actually mounts to the wall via velcro mtg - partially obscured by my hand in the pic

Outside to starter motor cover,the extension lead plugs into the female connector mtd on pannier and can be removed when not in use.

Think these are my old panniers which flatdog has shown. I purchased the parts from powerlet in the states. Was not that expensive and plenty of options available.

Aluminium is easy to drill. Just make sure you do it in the right place and to the correct diameter. A small pilot hole in the centre may well make life easier, to save the larger diameter drill bit (possibly) slipping.

As to where to put the hole? Think about where / how you want the power lead to come in (and the run up to that point from wherever you want the power lead to start). A length of string to help picture the final set-up sometimes helps. Also have a think about where and how you want the leads to run inside the pannier.

Other than that, piece of cake.

As in my earlier post, I think the Powerlet products are excellent, as town in Flatdog's pictures.
