I've done some searching on this ere site adn seen lots of info on fitting a Givi topbox to the GS but nothing about fitting to the GSA.

Can I simply bolt the universal mounting plate straight onto the rack or do I need a specific kit.

Before I get told to just use the panniers, I can't fit my laptop into the panniers!

No extra brackets, just the 4 bolts and square washers?

I need all my luggage for a trip 2 days afetr collecting the bike so if I need any parts I must order them tomorrow.

When I got my 12gsa last month SLM fitted what looks like the 1150gsa plate to the bike. This fitted straight to the rear steel frame and takes my monokey top box.
May be worth asking your local dealer for advice. :thumb

Advice needed...........Brought a Kappa K42. Did not buy the fitting bracket specific to the 1200 GS as dealer said the universal mound would be fine attached to the rear rack.

Does anyone have any experience of this....? Is the existing rack strong enough as it is not metal.. Will it hold or crack with time.

Worthy,

I don't know the answer to that one. The only thing would be to try it and see but I wouldn't personally do it. :nenau

There's a kit going on ebay at the moment. Item number 280045894121.

I would not mount any topbox to the GS rack without a bike specific mounting plate that included supporting legs to bolt to the ends of the bikes frame.

The 1200Gs "tripod" rack is not designed to cope with the load and stress of a top box, this was proved when Hepco and Becker's initial 1200GS rack was replaces by one with supports after complaints of racks breaking.

Hi Mate,

Did you install the Givi topbox plate onto a 12GS or the 12GSA?

Thanks
Garry

I've got to the bottom of a couple of things.
1. My GSA has GS manniers and plastic rack instead of the GSA's metal one.
2. I must us the Givi 12GS mounting kit or risk (90% certain) destryoing the rack
3. Givi do not make a kit for the GSA but the universal plate will mount safely with a bit of engineering excellence

My kit arrives this coming week adn I'll post some pics of the fitting. Cost new £60, Fleabay auction is up to £45 inc postage. For £15 I'll have bradn new and guaranteed, thanks.

just use the give mounting plate and clamp it to the gsa rear rack.

Gazzr,

It was to a GS not GSA - sorry if I've misinformed anybody with my first reply - I didn't see the GSA in the title. :o :o (Note to myself - buy new reading glasses)!
