Hey All

Just received my HID kit from Les, http://www.hid50.com/ , a new set of main and dipped beams as well as a set of Hella spots. I`ll put my hands up and say electrics aren`t my strong point and when I opened the box it all looked lovely and intriguing but beyond my "red for live, blue for neutral" electrical skills.

Anyway, is there anyone around Glasgow \ Falkirk \ Stirling etc who can give me a hand fitting them. Plenty of tea and cake on offer. If not can you point me in the direction of an auto electrician who won`t balk at the idea of me not turning up in a Vauxhall Corsa.

Much appreciated.

Cheers

Mozza

If your stuck I'll PM you my contact number and would be happy to talk you through it.

Replacing the headlight bulbs with the burners is pretty straight forward, the auxiliary lights are more complicated as you have to use a relay.

Failing that hop on the ferry :aidan

I stay on the south side of Glasgow, unfortunately I don't have time to come and help wire your bike but I could probably meet you on Friday morning if that helped for an hour and show you how I wired my hella FF50's and Micro DE's.
I don't have the HID conversion on the GS but have done it to a car before and it is a lot easier than it first appears.

Cheers

It looks scarier than it is. I fitted my HIDs last night, took a couple of hours and only took that long because I'm fussy (anal!) about cabling and ballast location.

My "top tip" would be to remove the side panels and beak to give yourself room to work and to tie the wires in comfort.

Print out the instructions from Les's site and the various threads on here, take your time, clear a decent working space, line your tools up, take digital photos of the areas you'll be working in before you start anything and relax.

I also have spots (PIAA 1100x) on GMT mounts I fitted a while ago. Again, panels off, plan what connections where, take your time, make sure you have the right tools and enjoy. The biggest "challenge" will be where to route the wiring and where to put the relay.

Unless you are totally hamfisted and a complete numpty with tools & electrics, you will be able to install the spots and HIDs.

If you're passing Bristol (kinda unlikely), happy to help.

I'll Help if I Can????

Hi Mozza,
I fitted a set of Les's HID'S to my 1150GS last year. It ended up a very neat installation with no mounting plate etc required for the ballasts - they were neatly velcro'd to the inside of the beak between the beak & the dash, and now it's always daylight:thumb2
If it's an 1150 and you fancy a trip to the east coast, I'm happy to help you fit the main & dip HID's - to be honest, once these are fitted you'll probably not need/want spots:nenau.
Also, if it is an 1150, I can take a few pics if you want & send them to you ?

Cheers.......................Grizzly:beer::beer:

I live not so far away - - - but I'm not around at the moment. Don't be afraid of it if you can handle a screwdriver and read instructions.

I fitted a pair to my GS headlamps. Agree with all above tips - and I also was changing my screen at the same time so that made access even easier. I removed the whole headlamp unit and worked on the bench

I was surprised to find that HID bulb would not clear the "lid" of the perspex container it arrived in and after some head scratching I snapped the "lid" off. Then I found out the hard way that a fragment of perspex had dropped in the headlamp unit - which I only discovered when it was mouted on the bike - so it all came off again.

And I almost cut my fingers on the sharp edges of the punched out ballast mounting plate - sorry for the late feedback Les.

Give this guy a call and im sure you wont be disappointed,

I-MEX 07774 620375 and ask for Ian. :augie:D

Intriguing, I`m not in the habit of phoning strange men and introducing myself, any other info before I make a twat of myself.

I`m pondering giving it a go after all of the encouragement

mozza, I'm in the middle of fitting both dip and main beam conversions plus FF50's and Micro DE's,
When I unpacked the box from Les my initial reaction was 'what the feck have I gotten into here' but take time and follow the instructions Les gives, it's not that bad!
I can't offer to help at the moment as my bike is mostly in the garage with quite a few bits in the house until I get the job finished, but if you want to contact me, Ill probably be all done by the end of Saturday.

I fitted a dipped beam unit from Les, and initially when looking at the instructions thought the same. It was a doddle, just take your time, and you will be fine. If I can do it, anyone can :) I got Les to fit my spot lights because I know he does a very neat job and it was a good excuse to go up tp the Peak district for a ride about and get the lights done at the same time. He did an excellent job, and is a really nice bloke. The lights are great and I still marvel at how bright they are and how they just light the road up. :)

Very very good Auto Electrician. :rob Mention my name. :D Has done all my electrical work on cars, trucks and motorbikes, for many years including fitting Hids and other gadgets. Likes things to look "like they grew there" if you know what I mean.:thumb:thumb:thumb

Oh yes......and he rides a very sexy Magma Red 08 GSA.:augie

great replys from every one:rob

but is there a link or a thread that actully shows what the back of the light housing looks like before and after as what i'v seen so for looks a bit vauge i'm sure that when you have the kit in your hand and you lights in bits it may look easy . but like a lot of people i find the whole bloody thing a bit daunting .

so if there is any one who is a electrical guru about to fit one of these kits please do a few pics of the fiddly for less giffed out here
Al :rob
