Hi all,

After wading through pages of posts... I can't seem to find any fitting instructions for a vario top box onto an 05 GS

anyone shed any light please?

I understand the dremmeling of the rack thingy to allow the two bars room, but how does the plate fit on to the back bit... :nenau

:aidan

cheers all

Nate

Nate, I,m really useless at anything that needs fixed /sorted /fitted etc. However recently took my rack off my GS with a view to fitting a Givi topbox. From what I can remember there were about six or seven bolts that needed undoing and thats all. I take it that when the rack is supplied it already has the holes in it? Mines was a used bike when I purchased it and the topbox rack already fitted. The two rods then have a space on the rack where they screw into. I know its a vague description but its the best I can do. By the way I kept the vario topbox and fitted the rack back on. Seemed simple to me at the time but I was just re doing what I had already undone. Good luck.

I take it you have the rear support bracket too?

My Advice run a friggin M8 (or the correct size if different) tap down the threads

They used to be a cnut to get the bracket aligned and the bolts tightened without crossthreading the feckers

My Twat ex manager reckoned it should all just fall together! Well designed my Arse!!!!

My Big Tip is to Insert everything that is relevant by a few threads and then when it's all lined up start tightening bit by bit!!!!!

Nate, the black plastic top box plate fixes to the rack using 4 bolts and the 2 rods that you already know about. Two bolts go into the quarter circle shaped cut outs and the other two go into the hook shaped bits at the back (nearest the seat) of the top box plate. Don't know about any dremmeling as mine came with the cut outs for the rods already done.

I slavishly followed the instructions that tell you to take everything off the back to allow you to scollop the shroud thingy on the bench. Don't bleedin' bother. Easily done in situ, and already provided on newer bikes.
I'd advise loctite on the two screws holding the rods above the light.
