OK stupid question really, but has anyone fitted their Machine-Art X-Heads to a GSA 1200 LC ?

Looking at it, can't see any other option but to take the crash bars off to be able to properly access the head(s). Also looks like a snug fit too.

Cheers.

Alex

Yep, you'll need to take the bars off. It is a snug fit, but they will go on.:thumb

Be very careful with the small screw that fits below the covers. It enters at a slightly oblique angle and is easy to get crossed up.

Also make sure you check the screws after your first post-fitting ride. Obvious I know but the one screw you can't easily see comes loose. A fact which I didn't appreciate until I'd sold them and went to take them off :blast

Thank you, gentlemen.

I'll be mindful of your advice. Sounds like a longer job than I first thought but eminently do-able.

Apart from the engine bars, probably no more than 30 mins. Maybe squeeze them in without removing - depends how close the bars are to the covers.

Hi MB.

Very tight on left hand side...just 5 mm between the buffer on inside of crash bar and head (12 mm on right hand side), so I think the bars will need some major loosening or removing above the heads and according to the MAM website, some shimming too especially on left.

Glad I found this thread... confirmed my suspicion that I'm going to have to take the bars off. :(

Don't fret too much by the time you've slackened off the lower fixings of the upper bars (no need to remove) I suspect you will only have to slacken off the lower bars to get the X head protectors on, either way it's no more than 20 minutes easy work undoing and tightening up Torx fasteners.

I recently fitted these to my GS LC which has SW Motech bars fitted. These have even less clearance; especially on the right side of the bike (cylinder is further back and lower apparently).

I had to remove the bar on the right side to fit the X-Head but on the left it was enough to loosen it off. As suggested above, my bars are now shimmed using penny washers on both sides but mainly on the right.

I'm happy with the result though.
