The instructions say to drill four 3/32" holes for the self tappers, but do these holes only go through the original mud guard or do they go through the extension as well ?
SInce the extension is made from a softish plastic I assume the self tapping screws will just drill into it but I though I would ask first :nenau

Mine isn't NNs but on the last three that I fitted on previous bikes I drilled all the way through carefully but didn't 'run' the drill enlarging the holes. I think I used a slightly smaller drill bit aswell.

I wasn't too happy with the sharp ends of the self tapper screws so I ground the ends off. I'm always getting cut when I wash the bike.

ps. don't drill a hole in your tyre..........:D

When I put one on ChasMill's bike, I drilled through both.

Smallest drill bit, just enough to make a pilot hole, using a hand drill. The self-tapper does the rest.

From memory I also filed the ends of the screws off, as they would lacerate your hand should you be as unfortuante to catch them when cleaning the bike.

Also, run a wee bead of silicone sealant between the extender and the original mudguard. This makes the extender more effective as water can't then exit through the join, which it will, negating the point of the extender.

Luckily I read this just as I was shutting down the 'pooter at work so I was able to stop off on the way home and get some..... I've probably got a tube somewhere already but I can't remember the last time I used it so it's probably gone off by now.

I didn't like the idea of drilling holes in the mudguard so I used araldite and a bead of silicone. It's still on 25000 miles later. :thumb2
