Fitting of SW Motech bars

Did everyone use these torque values from the SW Motech instructions http://shop.sw-motech.com/cosmoshop/artikelpdf/sbl_07_562_100.pdf or those from the BMW torque values link http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134046

Rear frame to engine, bottom, M12 x 50 55 Nm
Crash bar Screws, top, M6 9 Nm
Crash bar Screw, bottom, M10 25 Nm

Also, did you use Loctite on the threads?

Fitted mine the other day, but I just want to be sure of the torque settings before using the bike

Sven,
The torque settings that I posted or as you quoted from me are as supplied by SW Motech.
I cannot suggest other than what was recommended or supplied with the unit.
Regards.
Grimo :)

Thanks, but the reason I asked is because the SW Motech instruction state:

All screws, bolts and nuts, including
all replacement hardware provided by
SW-MOTECH, should be tightened to
the torque specified in the OEM
maintenance manual for your
motorcycle. If no torque specifications
are provided in the OEM maintenance
manual, the following torques may be
used

Don't really want to torque the M12 bolts to 79NM when the OEM (BMW) torque value is only 55NM - those are the two bolts most important bolts as they fasten the frame to the engine block.

Guess I've answered my own question - tighten them to 55NM and use a drop of Loctite for security :)

Just did a search for the M12 value & was directed to this thread.

55Nm = 40.56lb/ft

:beerjug:

I'd be wary of going any higher to avoid cracking the gearbox :thumb2
