Hi all,

I've had a trawl through loads of posts about OE Adv luggage (the result of which has been to serioulsy consider selling them :D).

I bought a set of 'Off Road Safety Catches' on the recommendation of a mate...

The instructions are quite straightforward...

You just remove the 'stoppers' and insert the clamp...

Trouble is, neither of my panniers have a hole and a stopper. It's quite clear where the hole is meant to be - it just isn't there...

Has anyone else fitted these clamps? Did you have to drill a hole? If so, is there a template to position it (the position will be critical to make the clamp tight)?

Mike

After having lived with your Jesses for so long Mike, I suspect you're going to be disappointed with the ADV luggage :(

I'm afraid I have no idea on this hole question, apart from to say that I'd have just got a bit of paper, used some charcoal to find the exact spot to drill, and would have drilled and fitted them already.

Erm, no, I wouldn't actually.......I would be looking to sell them, complete with these silly clamps, and I'd be on the phone to Vern to get a PROPER set of panniers made....which is exactly what you ought to be doing IMO :augie

I've not tried these panniers yet, so thought I'd give them a go. I had trouble keeping my last set of Jesse's wholly waterproof (not a huge problem, but niggling). The later Jesse bags might well be better in that respect (I am pretty sure the leak was in the hinges, which were forward facing in the model I had, and have been moved to the side in the current model) - but they are a horrible price this side of the Atlantic.

I was looking at Metal Mules at the NEC - loved the mounting system...

But I'll persevere with these for a while and see what happens...

Mike

they only had the hole from 03 onwards after reports of panniers bouncing down the road, bmw still didn't supply them with the panniers, just called them off road brackets, I had to drill mine, just line it up, mark with pen, centre punch and drill.
