Bought these splendid lower pot protectors off Ebay....now I had them fitted to my Rockster..simple as it get's with three tapped mounting holes..what could go wrong ?
Well, I own a R1150R and the three mounting castings are blanked off:mad: Am I missing something ( they look like there could be a tapped hole behind the metal front of the casting:nenau ) or do you think my model was never intended to have this type of rocker cover protector fitted:(.
Oh and please don't recommend I drill and tap the required holes...two look to tight to get a drill in there.....so if that is my only option; anyone want to buy a discounted pair of brand new rocker protectors ???

That's just it, they seem solid but I could Dremel them off. Casting is there , just unsure why they are blanked off ( seem's all one casting but I may be wrong ). Maybe the first owner blanked them off or something ( bottom centre casting - I cannot feel a hole from the back:eek: and that one would be a bugger to drill and tap) !

Kenny those are single spark ones

The twin spark ones have the underneath locating hole vertical

Just use a Pick or small sharp pointy screwdriver and pick them out!

They are just plastic plugs

I thought the blanking holes were the same between single and twin spark. I've got metal Touratech head covers that use those mounting holes and I've had them on both single and twin spark bikes. Those plastic blanking plugs should just pop out with a screwdriver.

That is most odd.
I checked the p/n on MaxBMW and it shows that they fit an 1150R

(scroll to the bottom)

I then checked the cylinder p/n 11117667111 and that is the same as on the 1150GS, which has the same guards.

They are also the same on my 1100S

most curious

Apologies - I misread Kenny's post and thought he was trying to fit them to a Rockster, not an R1150R... :blast

Actually Mike, you are right; early models must all be the same without any mounts drilled and tapped. Just filed one back and it is solid metal all the way through...so just re-painted that one and no harm done. So, in summing up, the 2002 ( and I assume earlier models ) R1150R and probably Rockster won't accept the fitment of these £35 specials ! So, I'll put these ( they are brand new ) up in the F S & W for £25 delivered.

Thanks for all the advice guys:clap

That is Weird Kenny I've never come across heads not drilled before

Its just M6 x 1 thread so you could easily drill and tap them! You Da Man! :green gri

But seriously there is no oilway at the back and the front bolt in the Kit was only a cm long the Oilways are closer to the Exhaust port and quite a bit deeper

I fell victim to the same eBay ad saying these Chinese pattern plastic head-guards would fit my Rockster and they turned out to be single-spark jobbies.
Got my loot back though, thanks to eBay's Customer protection Policy.
Then got the correct full-price ones for the Rockster - but what a struggle to fit 'em ! It's the rubber buffers inside that must be compressed by Charles Atlas onto the rocker cover in order to get the locating holes over the casting threads.

Deffo a two-man job; one with real muscles to compress the hidden rubbers and the other to struggle to get the supplied bolts in.

Oh for a bike-lift....but Her Indoors says one of those isn't being let into my garage to sit there cluttering up the place for 99.99% of its lifetime, just so you can stop whining about how sore your knees are when you occasionally want to do some farkling on your bike - that you hardly ever use anyway...blah, blah....

I can't get a drill bit in there - bit to tight for the chuck and tapping them would be awkward, so easier to sell them on:)
Besides, I believe the untapped mounts are only found on the faster engine model ! :augie
