Short version: Any top tips or alternatives when it comes to soldering & fitting power for GPS and Autocom accessories? I’ve never done this sort of thing before, and don’t have the right tools etc. yet. Yes, I am looking through all the past posts...
Long version: I am finally getting round to thinking about fitting a Autocom Pro-7 Sport my now Mrs got for me at the NEC in 2005… (I know, I know – health, work, relocation, wedding, blah blah). The Mrs has now got me an early Christmas and Birthday pressie in the form of a Zumo 550.
I am fairly happy about fitting both to the bike, and have been looking at the various threads about this. It is getting the bike power sorted – scary electics. I am even considering getting a Centec panel at the same time, provided (a) I can understand what to do RE the canbus stuff, and (b) if I can lay my hands on one this week.
However, I am an expert numpty. I have some lovely alphabet soup letters after my name that make me an ‘engineer’, but I only know how to design buildings to make sure that they don’t fall down – mechanics and electrics aren’t my thing. I do not own a soldering iron, and have not used one since various times botching things at CDT in school.
Help! I am on the verge of swallowing my pride, and seeing if I can get a dealer to do it for me.
