I am a new member who got her 1200 GS just before Christmas. I am really enjoying riding it - a major improvement from my K75RT.

I have finally received my cylinder protectors from Touratech and set about installing them today - but am having a bit of trouble. I cannot get the M6x25 bolt to go smoothly into the thread for the screw at the back of the cylinder which was behind the plastic thread covers

Has anyone else done this? What am I doing wrong?

The thread could just be dirty from all the crap on the roads at the moment. If you have access to a airline give it a blast with that, if not try cleaning it with a squirt or three of WD40.

Carla, I had the same problem. It turned out to be metal shavings left over from when the threads were originally tapped. It was only in the first groove so was able to pick it out with an awl. If it goes deeper you may have to clean out the threads with the proper tap.

Thank you for the really quick response!! Protectors now fitted and done!! :D

Problems were as Bart described - On one side I just needed to remove some extra metal and on the other just needed to help pursuade the bolt to go in!!
