There's a great write up in this section for fitting winglets to an 08 GS.

Has anyone fitted Nippy's winglets (other suppliers are available) to an 07 GS? It seems to me that there's no support under the bike "wing" below the plastic surface and I wondered if it's strong enough to support the twisting from the upward rising pressure from the wing?

I don't imagine NN would sell something that was'nt up to the job, but has anyone fitted a set to their 07 GS and if so, how did you fair?

Thanks

Fitted them to an 06, the same plastics as far as I can tell, with no problems at all. Road tested for 13k miles and up to 130mph without the "tearing plastics to shreds" horrors.
Highly recommended modification.

I fitted the OE BMW winglets to both my '04 and '07 bikes.

On the '04 GS, I only used washers under the nuts on the underside of the beak, to spread the load a bit. I didn't encounter any problems in 12K miles.

On my '07 bike I purchased some pre-drilled metal reinforcing strips from B&Q and fitted those on the underside of the beak.

Thanks for the replies; Schtum, what benefit did you get from reinforcing strips under the beak - did it prevent flex - did you do any tests without the strips?

Cheers

- did you do any tests without the strips?

Only inasmuch as I fitted them to my '04 bike with just washers underneath the beak to spread the load. I don't think the strips have made that much difference in day to day use but perhaps the long-term effects might be a bit less.

I have the NN winglets on my 07. I fitted them using the bits supplied with the winglets and no problems in 7000 miles.

have a search for winglets as this has come up before,,, TBH i would buy the BM ones as they are only a few pounds more and look far better .

i have the NN version and had no probs fitting but the supplied template isnt the correct size - its slightly too big.

i did mine on the bike but it may be easier to do it off the bike? large washers underneath and an occasional "tightness check" of the bolts and all is fine.

I did however need to make a small packer to fit between the screen support and the panel to stop it vibrating at idle and also to stop it flexing at speed. I made a packer out of rubberised tape so it wont mark anything.

Mrs Bone says I've not to do 130 mph again or I'll be sent to bed without any tea.:blast

I fitted BMW GSA winglets to my 06 GS 2 months ago, as with the 07 model the 06 has no frame so onlt the plastic bodywork take the train. Simply line up the winglet, move the handlebars to make sure there is no interferance, mark the holes and drill. (best to mask tape the area as it helps make a nice clean hole). Then just screw it all together, best to put oversize washers under the body plastic to spread to strain of the wind. But mine have now been for 3000km and no problems at all, and fitting is a 15 minute job.
