Well done jeff for taking the time to post your thoughts in the hope that someone may benefit from them f.o.c.

Unfortunately you'll find that there will always be someone out there who will criticise / find fault / disagree with whatever free help you offer us all (its usually the same people )

I thank you for your thoughts and if I chose to try out the ideas I'll thank you further if I find an improvement

Sherps;)

Am I am your list then Sherpa?

I've got h1 projector units on my car, I have noticed that if you don't seat the bulb properly (when i put the +50% ones in as well) that the difference in light output/sharpness of cutoff is very noticable on the garage door test.

h1's have a cutout/alignment blobs on them, and if you put them in slightly wonky, you can usually get the clip on and think it's seated right but the bulb will be tilted, with the filament off axis. A badly made bulb could easily give you the same effect.

The GS is easier to change bulbs on than my car, where they''re buried in the front wings, so you should be able to see if they're in funny.

It's all fairly well lit in west london anyway, so I don't *need* aux lights, with the two +50% halfords bulbs in. - Though that won't stop me thinking about them in the new year.

GS1150 lights are about as good as their ABS Integral brakes.

Nuff said!

Well put 50% brighter bulbs in your brakes and you'll be sorted

Errm - no. It may be good enough for the way you ride - I'm happy for you - but it in NO way provides sufficient illumination for the way I wish to ride at night.

Mike:)

Erm no, who the feck was talking about the way YOU ride at night,
stick yer nose in and don't be surprised to get it bitten.

Merely pointing out that it hadn't worked for me, and putting forward a possible reason as to why, Tim- what's your contribution to that debate?

Mike:P

Piss off Sherpa, I never did like you...

Yeah right, some contribution to the 'Technical' section. Very useful for someone doing a 'search' in the future.

But hey, who are the rest of us to dare uttering a word of decent:P

Perhaps a poll on how many seconds it takes you to to bite' again:D :D :D :D

its sad, but its moved on now, from the original posting, which was simply some usefull info that may have been "a solution" to someone elses lighting problems.
i feel that the original thread starter has been unfairly "attacked"

leave the poor bugger alone,

This reaction has made me think twice about posting anything on here and that is sad if that was to happen.

OBTW my lights are fine!
:D

My lights aren't fine..

I find them dangerously dim on dark roads (bit like me). One thing I had wondered about is the BMW foglights I have fitted on my bike. Given that it's never foggy here, is there any way to change them from being foglights to being driving lights, or is the reflector pattern all wrong?

they must be similar same to an aftermarket one, maybe you can swap the reflector /lense.

Either that or change the units - BigTrailbikerider, shouldl be able to tell you how much a pair of Hella lamps are. I think Oscar bought some here for 50€ (trade I expect). I´ll ask him.

or, even better

next time we are in Orange you can natter away to Yvon in french and I´ll pinch a pair of those halogen thingies they sell.;)

Used to use them to supplement dipped beam (they have a flat-topped beam pattern) before they were destroyed in an 'off' (the mounts are very fragile).

I just used to switch them on when I was riding at night - aligned the flat top of the beam pattern to the flat part of the dipped beam. Filled in some gaps at the side quite nicely. Actually, I usded them as daytime vis lights as well, come to think of it.

I leave them on all the time too, definitely helps to be seen by other drivers. They do light up the sides at night, but I'd still like a bit more light in front. Might get some Hellas or equivalent.

HID..............an amazing difference;)
