Just got one of those little 5mm flashing LED jobbies to let the would be thief know my bike is alarmed. where is best place to mount it and what do i wire it too?

Where did you get the LED from? It's just you'll need to wire in a resistor in series with it and the value of the resistor depends, to a point, on the exact type of LED. Alternatively, can you see any paperwork you got with it that tells you the forward voltage, or Vf and the current it requires (If or forward current)?

If it's Maplin, can you quote the part number?

Yep that might as well been written in Greek!
From Car craft made by Autobar part num 850
No paperwork with it

If you bought the standard fake alarm LED from Maplin/ebay/etc then it should be 12v and so can be wired straight in. If you didn't and don't understand slowdown's post then, I suggest you buy a 12v one from ebay.
The best way to wire it is the +ve to a perminant +ve feed of the batter (with a fuse) and the -ve to the ignition. ie the wire that become live when you turn the bike on.
When the bike it off it will flash, when the bike is on, you will have +ve to both sides of the LED, so no current will flow.
No very well explained, does it make sense?

I've done the same on my bike, although I suspect that even a fairly dim thief might be wise to this not very sophisticated trick..

Done and sorted. Every little helps i suppose. For some reason now my power socket don't work where is the fuse i think i blew it testing

Oh dear!!!!
somehow managed to drain the battery overnight.
Where exactly did u wire yours to Jimbo?
And why does my aux power socket not work all the fuses are ok!
