I bought myself a nice looking solar powered battery trickle charger from craplins last month as i have no direct power to my shed ,
two crocodile clips straight to the battery the little blue led light flashing happily away , jobs a good un !
So this afternoon after all the freezing weather I thought Id just warm her up ,
CLICK ! bloody CLICK ! nothing !! flat as a fart !
So I spent the late afternoon with a torch in me gob disconnecting the battery Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!and BBrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!
Anyway its in the house now on a 12hr trickle charge , so I might leave the battery off for the time being
So whats my point you may ask ?? well , why sell a product thats not fit for the purpose ?? its goin back tomorrow for a refund ,
:forry:forry:forry:forry

Dus tha mean te whippets are int ouse fort wintr, an not laggin th gs.
Sorry but why not just run an extension cable out to the shed and connect the charger with battery in place..

Have a merry xmas and a happy new year..

I'm sure you've checked this but the 1 amp blade fuse in my oxford solar-powered charger was blown - before I'd ever used it. Devil's own game finding a replacement but a kind car audio outfit sold me two for 40p (Maplins/Halfords don't do them). Worth a check?

It was never going to work in winter, was it?! Have you ever considered why it's cold in winter?

I mainly lurk, but having read this thread, I had to post.

I recon he's used all the sun up and caused the snow. :augie

The suns rays are hitting the earth at a shallower angle even though it is closer than in the summer :rob
.....this is like a basic physics class. So the result of the suns rays hitting the earth at a shallower angle is...........................

They take a longer path through the atmosphere and are scattered into it rather than hitting the earth's surface. Photovoltaic cells can still work fine in winter (assuming not covered with snow)...in fact, in Summer, hot PV cells work less efficiently. However, the combination of lower intensity radiation and shorter days may mean there may not be enough of a trickle to trickle charge.

I started my GS (unused for 3 months because of a protracted house move) last weekend and it started first time without a charger (it doesn't have an alarm). I wonder if the PV cell drains current when not charging?

hhmmmmmm!!! tha knows , ah think ah may av ad a northen numpty moment !!!! ,
had the trickle charger checked , works fine :thumb
had the battery itself charged and checked , fine :thumb
still the wont start
ah !! a brain wave
trailed a lead to the shed {garage!!} plugged in my trusty heater and left for 10 mins :augie
result :clap:clap
started 1st time :D
I think condensation in the solenoid :nenau

anyway I'm foooockin happy once again , merry xmas tossers :beerjug:
