I would like to have an FM radio piped through my Autocom. I do not want to spend megabucks as in a BMW badged system.

So far I have just connected a portable radio -on batteries, in a side pocket of my tankbag with the aerial sticking up pointing over my shoulder.

I would like something more permanent.

From what I have seen the problem with small portables is that the aerial is usually the audio out earphone lead. If this is under the seat connecting to the autocom will it still work?

I suppose what I am looking for is a portable (Walkman size) that has an external aerial socket. I have found marine fm radios, waterproof and some with wired remotes but they are just too big.

Any suggestions

I use a Creative Labs Zen V Plus mp3 player. Works a treat (provided I'm in an area with decent reception) either through my Autocom or directly attached to my ear monitors.

It's a simple solution.

I would like to do this too.

12v power supply would be good.

No worries about charging it up or connecting the cables each time.

Anyone any suggsetions.

Mine works OK if I make sure the lead is spread around under the seat and not bunched up but it is better if I keep the radio in the tank bag and wind the lead once around the tank bag.

Bryn,

Depending on which ipod you have 'Griffin' do a wired remote control for some with built in FM radio - the wire acts as the aerial and I've got it mounted on the handlebars.

I have this set up for my nano and it works fine, and provides a nice change from when I get bored of my stored music.

I think it was about £30 when I brought it last year but it will probably be cheaper now, (from John Lewis).

Cheers,
Ste

works well in good DAB coverage

The big problem with DAB is that it's either very good or nothing. It's great for fixed radios but as soon as reception is less than perfect it just cuts out. I gave up with it as when moving, particularly in town, for about a quarter of the time I was receiving nothing. At least with FM it may get a bit crackly sometimes but it does not give up when reception is less than 100%

Sangar,

Pic is of my complete traveling entertainment system. 100 GB of Video / Music / photo uploading and the little silver thing is an FM radio and remote for the main unit.
