Just installed some OEM BMW fog lights, including the realy, harness and switch.

When I bought the parts I was advised that the dealer would need to plug into the bike and make some adjutments for the lights to work at a cost of £50.

After I installed the lights, to my suprise the lights worked when operating the switch. Does anybody know if i still need to take the bike to the dealer?

Cheers

YES of course you do. They still need their fifty quid, after all it is cashmas.

GSA OEM Foglamps!

Ordered my GSA 30 with just ABS, heated grips and Enduro first last year then decided to fit foglamps when I realised the headlight wasn't too good with the Touratech perspex protector fitted.

Decided to get the Touratech 1200ADV ones and fit them but my local dealer persuaded me to buy the BMW OEM 1200ADV foglights(much the same price and easier to fit without hacking into anything) I fitted the lights myself and sure enough they work fine.

I like the OEM lights better than the Touratech ones now as there don't cause as much 'beak shadow' although they are a bit more vulnerable if the bike goes over.

Thought they would need coded by BMW but I had the bike serviced and no comments were made about the lights.

FP.

And Wappers wins this week's prize for meta-cognition.....:thumb

There is evidence that rhesus monkeys and apes can make accurate judgments about the strengths of their memories of fact and monitor their own uncertainty. Whilst a 2007 study seeking evidence for metacognition in 1200 owners, suggested that they may have been following simple operant conditioning principles.... :augie

Was there any mention of K1600GT owners having more money than sense..? :augie

Not that I could spot. Though in the copious references to dim 1200 owners who never go anywhere, twipple bwack onanists and tight walleted Scots I may well have missed it ;) :beerjug:

Do ya know...

It may have looked like a bloody stupid question, he has done all the work and "they work " BUT what ever happened to a stupid answer is a question ya just don't know..
I think his question is pointed in the direction of the can bus...
" will it hurt the can bus..will it confuse the can bus and will I still get the warranty...
Without the BMW tech's not registering it on the computer that goes to head office and it has now received aftermarket add-on's...
BMW might not take into consideration that if the bike fails in any way over the electrical system that "" we don't cover that"" because YOU put that on not us..
So let's say he has put the aftermarket lights on himself, then the bike falters for some unknown reason and he takes it to BMW under warranty , they look on the computer and then laugh at him.....SORRY YOUR WARRANTY IS INVALID BECAUSE YOU FICKED UP"..

Full service history costs a lot of money and the knowledge that you ride with "BMW" warranty is worth its weight in gold.
A simple question with a very complex answer that only a few can answer..
I cannot answer your question, because I don't have the knowledge or experience when dealing with dealers and warranty claims..Also I am not trained in BMW can bus electrical systems ...

There are a lot on here that think they are the "botox" and answering simple questions is below their stature because they have been on here a while, Even though they know very little they try to degrade everyone they can.
A little research goes along way, I don't know if you have researched your question on here ( search button ) but if you have then a valid answer could be forthcoming.

Good luck...Tosh

The dealer is correct if they are plugged into the canbus system, reprogramming the bike should prevent fault lights coming on or whatever, I got slated on here before when I raised this thats why I asked on bike model , if its a gs then defo.
As for £50 his arse is out the window , most dealers if you buy the parts from them will do it for nowt , most I was quoted was £25 , they simply plug bike into a laptop and upgrade software, could take anything from 5mins to 20mins.

As an aside to this, I'm told that the old GT1 which was used by BMW dealerships has now been replaced by a new system which, once it has been connected to a bike, prevents any other diagnostic systems, eg GS911, from accessing the ECU.
