Due to corrosion, my engine and shaft are being replaced :bounce1

To those that have had theirs done, was the 700 mile service cost waived?

What about the miles on the clock as engine is new but bike is still original?

Many thanks and apologies if these appear basic questions.

Well

The engine replacement date & mileage will be recorded in your bike's service book, will it not?

Hi
Clock reading stays the same though you could state miles at engine swap when selling. service cost will be waived (I am part way through running my new engine / gearbox in) Check to see if your engine was ordered with your original number, or, like mine its different as stock engine used. if its different, its your responsibility to inform DVLA. either way, the later engine is sweeter due to heavier crank - enjoy!

No - not in my case! I don't think they like people to know whats going on - I did not sign for anything & have been advised run in service will be carried out but not recorded

My service cost was wavered and clocks left as they were. I was given the new engine number so that I can update the V5 document, to keep it all in check. I asked for a copy of the warranty invoice, so that I have it in my paperwork to show full service history....always nice to have.

Just had the news that my engine will be replaced due to corrosion, and that the 600 mile service will be carried out free of charge.

When did the heavier cranked bike hit the streets?

Being pedantic........... Mines a March 2014 bike, and it pre heavy crank................. Not exactly sure of when the heavy crank was introduced, but I thought it was 2015.

Nope heavy crank came in sept 2014, I had the pre heavy crank 2014 bike and had to have a new engine the difference I felt immediately plus the fact it was still shite so i rejected it and BMW had the bike back and paid me out and gave me 2k voucher for the inconvenience (tbh they wanted rid of me i can be a nightmare, I was doing them and the dealer no favours)

What did you replace it with - another GS?

Cheers

Ade

Bike just dropped off for a replacement engine. I hope the new one has a decent gearchange as my original one was not too bad.

My 13 had an engine and gearbox failure at 9500 klm, clutch shaft nut undone. BMW Aus offered a new engine and gearbox, free 1000 & 10,000 Klm services, new tyres and brake pads, an extra 1 year warranty and a loan BMW car for a month. Or a $5000 credit on a new bike. I went for a new 2015 and paid the $2K shortfall after trade in and the $5K credit. A new GS in Oz is $28K. I was extremely happy with this outcome as I had effectively 'rented' a 2013 GS for 18 months for just $2000, made complete sense to me.
