Just been told of a guy been arrested in France with a forged Irish licence so be wear anyone planing a trip without the right papers. :blast

would be very interested to know more specific details about that. :thumb2

Indeed, beware! The Gendarmes are now working with foreign police forces to counter forged papers, invalid insurance, stolen and untaxed vehicles, etc., as this has become a huge problem in France. Brits are more likely to encounter British police officers in northern France, but the Gendarmes here (Midi-Pyrenees region) have approached retired officers living locally with a view to some part-time "liaison" work ... :augie

All traffic units here have a book that shows all the EU licences in great detail. It also shows where the watermarks are on the documents. So all they do is shine a UV light on the licence and hey presto. No magic just old technology and a book :D.

Its a group of lads I know last week arrived in France just got off the boat and were asked for there papers, one of them drives a restricted 650 here in Ireland on a provisional licence hence the forged full Irish licence. bad mistake they have seized his bike and he is getting charged I don't know the full story but that's the gist of it.
I have heard of quite a few lads driving abroad on these so be warned. its not a great idea

Have to say If someone has forged Irish driving docs. I don’t have much sympathy for them if they get caught.:nenau

i am assuming none here sympathise. :nenau
i only ask as you would not believe the amount of queries into the MAG office about licences / foreign travel etc.
..and the utter suprise and indignation of some when told they need a FULL licence.

Linda has even been asked "what are MAG going to do about it?" :blast

this will be a useful cautionary tale.

It seems fairly clear cut to me. You need a full license, therefore you apply for & sit the test etc. You don't buy one off Anto down the pub for a ton and expect to be legal. No sympathy for the guy, he knew what he was at and he got caught, so now he's up to his neck in French poo, which, by all accounts, is very sticky stuff.

Hopefully he ends up in jail and we'll be free of at least one corrupt freeloading gobshite.......most of the rest of them will get re-elected.

In Nutgrove Tax office a few weeks ago, taxing my car a guy sitting behind me had been at the information desk he was asked to take a seat while they sorted out something. Police arrived arrested him for having forged licence.

OG, a lot of folk on this site will not know of the Weird Irish law that allowed someone who had taken a driving test and FAILED :blast to drive indefinitely and unaccompanied by THEMSELVES for technically forever without taking another test.:eek:
I know it was supposed to be repealed last year and the test centers where inundated with applications  but while we were over there all the radio shows where full of people moaning about "how can we get to work ? or how am I going to pick the kids up from school ??
[the last one was strange cos I thought the law was you could drive unaccompanied BUT alone only :nenau]
But what do I know being a FICK YOKEL from Devon ??
