Fork diameter for 79 R100RS?

Just called into M&P in Swansea and thought I'd pick up a set of fork seals for the RS. (In Wales again for long weekend to look after wife's parents).
"Are they 38 mm or 41 mm? my mate Sos behind the counter asks.
"No idea" I replied "but I know a man who will know!"
Speed dial Proff and ask him what diameter are the fork legs on a 79 R100RS?


The airhead guru thought about it and provided the answer....















"They are either 38 or 41mm. Fooked if I know".

I'm devastated. I thought he knew EVERYTHING about every airhead ever made.

Can someone else with a 79/80 R100RS let me know which size they are please so I can get the seals bought and fitted.

1970 - 1984, seal size is: 36 x 46 x 7mm. Tube diameter 36mm. (Later Monolever is 38mm).

Probably 36mm stanchions fitted. Those sizes you mention seem for the exhausts downpipe sizes !!

To be fair, M&P did say 36, 38 or 40.6mm. I thought 36mm was too small and as Kenny rightly says I probably got confused with exhaust sizes.

No excuse for Proff not knowing though.

I'll get the 36mm ones in the morning.
