Both fork seals have begun weeping, & I need some help to get them sorted. I’d like to have a go myself, but haven’t got a clue where to start, what tools I might need & how long it might take?

Got to be done for Moto GP in mid May when travelling to Le Mans – don’t laugh this is a man that hasn’t progressed beyond fitting some rails for Kappa panniers since September. Moving the indicators is a bit of a disincentive. Rails look good though! Have got to fit Touratech’s new dropped pegs & handlebar risers sometime also.

Where can I get new seals?
How do I replace the fork oil?
What oil do I use?
How do I know its safe once finished?

Any help whatsoever is most welcome.

Thanks,

JimG

Hi Jim, had mine done last week as I 'm a bit of a tosser when it comes to working on the bike. But the seals will cost around 15£ and the job will take you around 3 hours. Gecko kindly sent me the haynes manual pages scanned so I could have a guide if needed. If you want me to send them to you I can.

Good luck, be adventurous (unlike me) and have a go...

Great start.

Thanks for the encouragement, take you up on that offer of the copied manual.

Got to make a start. Seals went N of Madrid on way down to Valencia & then made it all the way back.

Got to start learning Valencia was far enough, still dreaming of thet rtw trip, but beginning to think that a circumnavigation of the Med would be more interesting.......:D

Jim I done mine about a month ago, easiest set ive ever replaced on a bike. The oil is only a lube so I used engine oil. Get the seals from your local BMW dealer.
