I want to format the partition of my Hard Drive which holds the OS in the hope it will speed it up a bit. Its 2 1/2 years old so is probably a bit overdue .

Problem is I cant remember how to do it anyone help??

I will save all my internet & emails etc in anothe partition then transfer back one its sorted.

Cheers

Is the drive already partitioned ? If not you need something like Ghost to do so before you re-format and reload the XP OS. Assuming you have the original XP disk, I think you can both boot from and reformat and reinstall from it.

Baz go to the Maxtor site and download a program called Powermax, this is then copied on to a floppy, boot from the floppy and when you get the A:\ prompt , type Powermax.exe and hit return and you'll have a free disc analizer, formatter etc, if your going to do it properly do a
'low level' format this takes your drive back to the condition it was when new, then just boot from your xp disc and reinstall, almost forgot a low level format on an 80gig hard drive takes a couplke of hours but you can choose and ordinary format if you want.

hopefully this link may take you straight there

Well that didnt work

Just got a message telling me to remove the media, never even got to the A: prompt :nenau

Or if I use an XP boot disk then insert the powermax disk it tells me "This must be run under win32"

Baz

Just put your original xp disk in the drive and reboot
(you might have to into bios to make it boot from your cd first, normally hit delete of f2 a soon as it starts)

just follow the instructions from xp it will give you the option to delete the partition

might be an idea to put your stuff on another drive incase you delete the wrong partition

PM your address baz I'll put one in the post, as long as your machine's boot sequence starts with the A drive first it'll work, if your already sorted I'll still send one and you can keep it handy.
