Hey you can't own a location man!!
Hi,

I posted a tread a while back about wearing away the paint on my 1200 on the left hand frame, next to the foot peg. It tends to be my inside ankle and also the back of my foot on the pillion foot rest!

I've tried many ways to stop this, my current one is using plastic pipe cut in half and then tie-wrapped to the frame - effective but not very pleasing on the eye!

I'm currently in the process of making some out of carbon fibre, but just wondered if anyone has had the same problems or bought or made anything similair??

Cheers

I haven't had a problem. Can you post a picture to show exactly where the paint is being rubbed off.

I don't know if it makes any difference but, I always wear my trousers outside my boots, so only soft material rather than hard boot comes into contact with the frame.

yea, I do the same but it hasn't made any difference! The more worrying thing is all my gear is BM stuff, I bought when I got the bike so just think the paint is really thin!

Unfortunately I can't seem to put pic's on this site, any advice on how I can do it?

Hi Boz, yes I suffer the same paint rubbing problem :( Any chance of making me a CF bit for my frame too? :D

You need to become a sponsor.

I have the same problem - I will post a picture when my camera batteries are charged up :)

I have the same problem, and also wearing the BMW boots.
Here is a photo of the problem.'
My BME dealer claims it is fair "wear and tear", but I'm not much impressed.

if anyone would like some covers made let me know, then I can work out what I need to buy in...

Will try and get pictures on this thing and once there made you can see what you think!!

There must be a way of feeding this back to BMW, I can't understand that they would release a product without testing it like their customers....pretty shoddy finish!!

Cheers

That's about where my paint has rubbed off.

Err, if that is not wear and tear - your boot has rubbed the frame and the paint has worn off - then what is it ?

I think the question is not whether it's "wear and tear" but whether it is "fair" wear and tear.

Personally I think I'd just touch it up with some new paint and then put tape over it. In fact the same thing has happened on one of my rear footpeg hangers, must see to it this weekend!

Hi all

Re: Frame protectors

I've bought a few dirt bikes over the years and most of them need frame protectors, sump guards etc.

If you keep your bike, boots & overtrousers clean and free from mud this helps preserve the frame finish, other than that you'll just have to fit protectors.

I'll be interested if you make some.

I did meet a guy once who had melted down plastic cups with some kind of solvent then sprayed the frame in the area of contact with the solvent, this left a plastic coating in the required area, this worked, but looked a bit discoloured after a few months.

Still i think i'll wait for some carbon ones!

See ya soon Shep
