I need to do a spot of touching-up on my frame and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where I might get some aerosol paint (no references to the Two Ronnies please!). A dealer told me its "437 Vice Aluminium 2" but it's not recognised by my local automotive paint supplier. Can any one please advise me of where I might get some or what might be an alternative? Thanks

If its for the silver frame/crash bars

I've used silver Hammerite Smooth, in the past, that seems to work and look OK,

As with all paints test a small area first.

I've done a bit more digging and the frame colour's White Aluminium 2, not "Vice Aluminimum 2". I think that the Vice came about because that's how it was pronounced over the phone, but it was probably written as Weis (I know, white in German). Anyway, according to a pretty impressive archive on the BM Bikes & BM Riders Club Forum, White Aluminium 2 (paint code 437, scheme code 825) was actually used as an 1150 Adventure colour(http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/paintcodes/whites.htm) and if my dealer's correct, it's now being used on the 1200 frame. I've managed to get an aerosol mixed by my local automotive paint supplier so I'm now well on the way. The only problem I have now is that I need to do some touching up on the handlebars and it doesn't seem to match. So, the saga continues.Suppliers of handlebar paint anyone.........??

Paint Saga

I too needed avery small amount of silver frame paint. I tried BM dealership who said to look under the seat, this I did and found a code for the main colour which is not the frame, blind alley. I thought no probs will go to local automotive paint supplier and get them to mix a colour match, they do this either in 1Ltr cans or an aerosol, price much the same at approx £16. All i needed was a thimbleful however I thought surplus paint wont go wrong. Paint supplier was very knowledgeable and helpful and stated that any paint mixed would not be waterproof as it would need a an overcoating of clear sealer and that a direct colour match to the BM frame would be very hard to achieve. Price was escalating all the time with no garantee of a direct match. At his suggestion I settled for an aerosol can of alloy wheel paint which is close enough not to be noticed in my case. This is waterproof and cost £3.50.
He said that a lot of companies had pulled out of the bike paint market as there was no real volume in it, for example my Gs is black, however the only black on the bike is the front fairing anf the tank panel both of which can be supplied from BM in the correct colour in the event of major damage, so it is only leaving small repairs as their market.

I spent an afternoon at my local Halfords with the colour matching samples and selled on BMW Mini silver which was the closest match I could find for the frame. It almost matches the handlebars from some angles but clashes horribly from others.
