Hi Frank,

Sorry to hear of your trouble - can you give a better description or a photo? Is it the rear sub-frame that has broken? In how many places?

Mike

Post a photo, it's quite common for the rear sub frame to crack on many bikes including 1150s.

'Vern' on this site offers a reinforced one:thumb

I'm assuming it is the mount on the gearbox? Touratech do a plate specifically to beef up that area I think, not that that's any use to you at the moment. I was with a rider who had this happen outside Bamako and another on an R850 just outside Anchorage. We got a huge lorry tie down on the 1150 and strapped the seat down to take the pressure of the spring. It was just about ridable like that. Welding is the only solution by the sounds of it + get someone to make up a support plate that bolts on to one of the footrest hangers too to spread the load.

Just re read his post, sounds like you're right:thumb

Agree with the above. The gearbox mount is a known point of failure on the 1100. Fixed on the 1150 – that probably doesn’t help you much though. As pointed out above, you’re unfortunately into the realms of a bodged fix. You could weld it if you can find a good aluminium welder however if it goes wrong you’ll be left with a right mess. Much better to try and get some kind of plate fabricated if possible or use liquid metal to implement a temporary repair. Longer term you’ll be looking at replacing the gearbox or the gearbox casing. Probably not what you wanted to hear but they’re your options. Good luck.
