Just a quick question,

Usually when examining front brake pads i expect to see a wear limit.
The bikes an R1100r 1995 (N reg).

Anyhow I have around 4mm of pad left all round,
with no sign of a wear limit.
Have i reached the wear limit, or are the pads some strange Bmw thing
with no wear markers ?

Cheers.

Yep thats a good idea,i usually get the most out of consumables myself. It's MOT time at the end of the month so I need to be sure.

In which case ask the man doing the mot.
Pointless arguing with him stating that "someone on the internet who isn't an mot tester but a furniture salesman told me blah blah blah". :D

I'm not a furniture salesman, but I seem to recall the reprom states minimum pad depth to be 1.5mm.

I don't have access to it at the moment, so I can't double check.

One mot man i use checks the thickness of pads, the other man i use doesn't :D :nenau

MOT centres all have their own little habits and look for particular things on bikes (one has a bee in bonnet over head bearings but misses warped discs, the other is a stickler for warped discs but hopless on head bearings :D) etc etc), so i take my bikes to the mot man that suits the bikes :D

I only use my local workshop/MOT place,(NON BMW)
I've built up a a good reputation with them as i sort other peoples motorbikes out and get them MOT tested.
I have never taken an MOT failure to them,
because i know what is and is not a failure.

I only asked on here as I thought someone would have model specific
knowledge.
:blast

The by the book reasons for failure are,
i) Brake linings or pads, (other than sintered pads) less than
1.5mm thick at any point
(ii) Sintered brake pads less than 1.0mm thick at any point

For the whole manual which all MOT testers should be working to check out http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/index.htm
