Front brake pads

Almost down to the disc for my old ones @ 17000 km.

3 questions:

Do I use too much front brake?

Is it difficult to change them myself?

Which one do you suggest? ...original BMW? ....else?

Supprised you have not had any answers so far....

1) You can never use too much front brake, except of course when its wet and locks up. Rear brakes are for wussies

2) Piece of cake to change, remove securing pins and pads fall out. Obviously to do it you will need to remove the caliper from the fork, or perhaps remove the front wheel. Use some WD40 (only once the pads are out) to clean and lube the pistons. 1 hour job max.

3) If you can get them aftermarket sintered EBC or similar seem to perform better, cost less but wear quicker

Pads

Hi, I got around 6000 miles out of EBCs (organic) and around 20,000 miles out of OE pads. I use the front quiet heavily and the EBCs glazed a number of times.

Much happier with the OE pads, more expensive by a long way but also last much much longer.

Bluejays question suggests a degree of naivity in both both bike maintenance and contol.

Hinting that rear brakes are for wussies is not only incorrect but taking your advise could be dangerous.

The EBC one are much cheaper and have a history of disintegrating in the wet. Have a look for brembo pads as these are the same as the OEM ones but maybe slightly cheaper.
