Hi,

I have stripped one of the four threads on the front brake reservoir cover, the countersunk long posidrive head screws.

I am away from the bike at the moment, and have the oppurtunity to purchase the required parts to fix.

Does anyone know what size thread, and length of bolt, I will need to go up a size if I drill and retap the thread in the reservoir?

Thanks.

According to the fiche http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51668&rnd=03252011 they're M5x16 - might be a fine thread though - can't remember - my memory is telling me they seem a bit finer than standard metric coarse (could be completely wrong though  ) ? There's not much meat in the reservoir body - are you sure you'll be able to go up a size? I might be tempted to clean out and fill the stripped hole with metal epoxy and retap it M5 - it's not a structural fastener so doesn't need much tightening. Or just buy a second hand master cylinder...

They're philips not posi by the way - don't use a standard posi scredriver - sure fire way to mangle soft bike fasteners (but you probably already knew this...) :thumb

It's a 2000 1150gs.

Perhaps it might have been useful to supply you with all the bike info in the beginning, DOH!....
