Would I be better getting a mudguard extender or a crud catcher for the front. I dont go off road

fitted a bit of neoprene to the bottom of the extender,flare it at the bottom and surprising how much crap it keeps off

Crud catcher
I have one of these fitted to 2007 GS1200 in addition to fender extender and it works very well.

Looks good BMmike is that front case plate stainless steel or aluminium, if it's Ally don't think it would be too hard to knock one up

I have just fitted the moto-ap crud catcher (small). It is brushed stainless steel. I already had a fender extender, but the crud catcher is still catching crud, so I agree you need both.
I have found that the crud catcher amplifies some engine and gearbox noise. With a really clunking gear change (eg 1st to 2nd sometimes) it sound like hitting a spade with a hammer. But on balance I can put up withthe extra noise to keep my engine clean.
Have a look at the thread on the equipment and toys section - Mark Hooton seems to be making a remarkably similar looking crud catcher.

Bmmike do you really need such things on your steed as it looks like it only does sunny days ,or you spit an polish after every rid???????How many miles ya done

I use the GS
The bike's covered 13,500 miles total - I owned it just over a year and done11,000 this year so far, including foreign travel and UK.
I use the bike all year round and, yes I clean it regularly as I do my R1200RT which at 32,000 still looks like new !
I believe in using my bikes but also maintaining and servicing them regularly.
If out on salt laden roads they get a hose down as soon as I am home.
I use Muckoff to wash, hose it off then dry the bike and apply Bike Spray (Muck Off product) which dispels water and leaves a PTFE protective film which does not atttract grim (like ACF 50). I also then polish the exhaust system(stainless steel) and wheels and all plastic.
After all, they are expensive items.

Which bars?
Hi bmmike08, which engine bars do you have fitted? They sure look like they'd be OK with Remus headers, where the sensor is moved further forward.

Ah yes fair play an i concur with you on looking after your steed in such a way(price indeed) and also have used your wash method on past bikes,but have also tried ac50 last year but christ dont the sh*te stick to it making a right ol mess when you do finally wash it all off afterwinter ,but it works.
Bike spray is good but thinner an wont last as long but gives that new look when used,horses for courses,its a credit to you anyhow
