Has anyone had any practical experience of buying/fitting a front hugger on a Dakar? I'm unlikely to ever take mine off road as I use it primarily for commuting and just plain hooning about. Since I bought the bike in the spring I've had damp feet whenever there's any kind of wet roads - something I never got with the old Funduro. I know I could wear my boots all the time but I often ride without, so a hugger could help.

It depends what year your Dakar is, as to whether you can get one to fit. The early bikes '00, '01 (maybe some '02) did not have the four fixing holes beneath the fork-brace, so it cost £££'s to buy a new fork-brace to be able to fit the low mudguard.

If you do have the four fixing holes, the BMW low mudguard is cheaper, but shorter and not so effective. The Touratech www.touratech.co.uk one is longer and more effective, but much more expensive.

Jon be careful mate,

a couple of weeks ago I was riding alongside an R1 for 50 KM right into the middle of bruxelles. We eventually go stuck next to some motors and I said to him that motorbike boots were not that expensive (he was wearing trainers) he told me to fcuk off...

In fact he was very aggresive and I thought he might even try and hit me.. I was very well dressed so I was unconcerned, however I 've learnt my lesson and if other tossres want to ride in shoes thats their problem...

Wasn't being rude, just asking a quesiton - and he lives no-where near me :D

I have the front hugger on my '03 GS so I optimistically started out on the Williams ride out today in my "Summer" boots but after 1/2 hour of drizzle I had to tip the water out of me boots!

Moral of the story - don't think the hugger makes much odds at 'foot' level.:(

"Please don't tell me you ride in "soft" shoes" - usually DM boots when I'm not wearing my Alt-Bergs. Maybe they're not the best but they suit me.:teacher

Phew! :D

Had visions of you in trainers................

I though Altbergs were waterproof?

Nik-Wax your DM's and see if that helps

I have Touratech front mudguard on my GS and my boots still got wet from road spray while I was out on Sunday. :(
The front of the engine did stay much drier and less mucky than it would with a standard GS shortarsed mudguard, which is nice. :)
