Has anyone replaced the front wheel bearings on a R1250GSA, preferably 2019
I'm coming up to 20k miles, just thinking of changing them, been through a lot of water recently. They seem OK for now, but just planning a swap.m for later.

Any particular tools required.
There doesn't seem to be much movement of the internal space to allow for a long punch from behind
And no room to get a blind bearing pulled in there

Thinking one of those bearing pullers that go into the race area, maybe?

Thanks

No experience of changing them, but I'd wait until they are showing signs of wear.

In my case I'd probably break something else while doing the job...

Ive used a blind bearing puller on one of these, use a heat gun on the hub

Thanks.
The inner spacer 'tube' between the two bearings is an exact match to the inner race, so, no 'lip' to allow the blind puller any leverage to get the bearing out, at least what I can see on mine.

Yep you can I've done it,I'll chuck a picture of the puller I used when I get home

I wouldn't change them for the sake of it. My R1150GS is 21 with 80 odd thousand miles on it and still on the original fronr wheel (and for that matter crown wheel) bearings. Just repack the front wheel bearings with LM grease every time you change the front tyre.

That's a fair point, always nice to get the options.
But still nice to know the 'easy' of swapping, just in case 😁

A blind bearing puller is needed if it's anything like a 1200R front wheel. The spacer tube cannot be displaced to get a drift in. I know this having done the bearings on a mate's bike. I had to buy the puller set to do it. I don't mind buying tools.

This does the job trust me!

I've got a similar tool, although probably much more on the budget side. But it can't get to the back of the bearing due to the space tube 😞
I'm thinking the pulled set that hooks into the space between inner and outer race?

+1 in spades. Why would anyone want to even think about changing wheel bearings on any bike with less than 20K on it and no symptoms?? My 60k '15 GSA is kept outside most of the time and is ridden regularly over cobbles as well as the normal crap UK road surfaces - there's not even a hint of a problem with wheel bearings.

This slides in and catches on the chamfered lip on the race then you tighten the tool down which forces the jaws of the tool to grip the race, then the slide hammer pulls it out.
Yep it's a blue point tool and very robust hence it works, although I get the impression you don't believe me!!

If your wheels are cast and you intend powder coating in the future they will fall out once the wheel is in the oven....
Bearings will be good for another 40 to 60k imho
Are you bored? :ROFLMAO:
