I've not long been back from a short trip to The Mosel andEifel mountains in Germany , the question is does anyone else encounter excessive backfiring when using the their bikes on the continent.
Mine is a 1999 R1150 GS fitted with a K&N , Y piece and standard end can.
Mine has always backfired to a certain extent and it is always worse when abroad. This despite making sure there were no leaks on any of the exhaust joints it was 10 times worse than normal. Tried alternating between standard unleaded and the higher octane premium stuff with no difference.
Once back in the UK and refilled it went back to normal, I'm not going to loose sleep over it just wondering does continental petrol have any different additives in it likely to cause this ?
