A simple question, that is still useful to know. On an 1150GSA when all the bars have gone my amber reserve light illuminates, how much fuel is left at this point?

Ta,

mine used to give me 17 miles at least, never had the courage to test it more than that, I think I have cocked up somthing though as the GSA tank the light comes on just as it drops from 2 to one bar on the fuel gauge, and I still havent had the courage to run it dry yet and see how far I can get I think quite a lot but not sure.

I've had a couple of 1150's, both had something like a gallon left by the time the light came on. I routinely ran 30 miles on the light, and a few times pushed it to close to 50 miles driving gently but it really was running on fumes by then. The light isn't an accurate measure of what's left, you need to leave a sensible margin for error.

Ta,
Too many variables to give definite answer.
Could try this though.
Carrying spare fuel in a container with you,go for ride.
Note mileage when you get the light come on.
Run bike until it runs out of fuel;note mileage again.
That should give you your reserve range.

Ta,

Don't forget the hidden reserve. if you do run out lay the bike over onto the right cylinder head, and you'll gain another 10 miles of fuel ( DAMHIK). Even works with an ADV tank that has the link pipe.

tank

I got 316 miles out of my asdventure tank (even with a few dents!) this was with lower gearing than std. dident run out but I chickend out and put some in.

Best thing to do is fill it up,stap a couple of gallon cans on the back, and see where you run out of petrol.

Every bike is different, and everybody rides differently,so go find out what YOURS does:thumb

Also note that the light can come on at different times on the same bike.
eg. it depends if you're going up or down the hill or doing sharp turns with heavy lean. I've had the light come on at different times between 4-5.5 litres ~1 to 1.5 gallons.

In other words, don't rely on full miles once the light comes on...get gas!
